When Having A Bad Day, How Do You Handle It?

Recommended Posts

i know in the past, i'd turn to food and eat and eat (and drink alot more than i needed to)

now i focus on my thoughts--and say i am an intelligent person and i will control my emotions and not let my emotions control me....(but it does take some work on my part along with a positive attitude)

so i thought it would be a good threat to ask, if you are having a bad day (period, pms, fighting with

spouse or bad day at work or you found a pimple...)

how do you handle it (without using food)?

I have to do something physical...exercise, go through a box (we had over 300 when we moved last year) to downsize our inventory, clean out a closet to give away items(can actually brighten your day to see some older clothing items which you have shrunk out of :) ) or make that an "errand day" and choose an itinerary to focus thoughts outward and keep my focus on the road as I drive.

I had to laugh at the typo..."threat" instead of "thread" ... !

I also do something physical. I exercise if possible. However, usually my down times are in the evening (also my previous time for bad eating habits), so I will crochet and watch a movie or read... anything to redirect my thoughts.

Watch a funny movie, go through big girl clothes and give to goodwill, clean house and closets, take a walk, make a band friendly food recipe, look at lapband forum here, exercise with a friend, clean the garage, snuggle up on bed with a good book or magazine, Facebook, scrapbook photos, trail walk, take a bubble bath!!!! Hang in there most of all.

Look at a magazine, read a good book, sew, watch a favourite TV show, go shopping ( that's dangerous)

Play wii. Instead if wii fit play a funny one just to get you up n laughing at funny things. Then throw fit in and do something fun that doesn't feel like excercising but you are.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
