Flavored mashed potatoes

Recommended Posts

A couple years back, I was eating a lot of flavored mashed potatoes - they would come in a cardboard round container, you added boiling Water to it, and let it sit for a few mins, then stirred things up.

I was thinking this would be great for the mushies stage of post surgery diet - but when I started looking around the grocery store for this, I can no longer find any! I've tried most the stores in my area, and no luck.

Are these still made in this type of packaging? I used to really love the cheddar cheese version, and there were other flavors that were good as well.

Any ideas where to find something like this?

Thanks for everyone's help!!

I've seen them at the grocery stores near me. They are near the cup o' noodles stuff.

I like to add a can of chicken to them, but you have to drain it really well or else it tastes funny. Of course, adding the chicken might not be so great during mushies. I would add extra Water, because those potatoes can get a little dry.

yes they still make them the boxes are square now, and they come in flavors still.I am pre-op also. My diet consits of the following

Breakfast--------1 8oz Protein shake

Lunch------------5 stalks of celery, 10 mini bite size carrotts, 1 can slimfast

Dinner------------steamed veggies, doc said I could have all I wanted, and also 90oz of Water during the day.

I have just found another source of intake, slimfast cappachino flavor with ice makes a grt smoothie, you get both the Water from the ice and the flavor of the cappachinno

I used these mashed potatoes (though they came from a box--4 cheese flavor is my favorite!) in my postop mushy stage with pureed ham in them. Yummy! I still eat them for a quick meal sometimes with cut up ham in them. In the pureed stage I used the ham that comes in small cans, like tuna. Easy to puree and makes a good meal with the potatoes!

I used to eat them a lot when I was on mushies. They either come in a box or packets. I've always found them sold with all of the other instant mashed potatoes and they come in great flavors. cheese is great so is garlic butter but I think the best that I had was loaded baked potato-that had bacon bits in it and a rich buttery sour cream flavor.

I found exactly the ones you are talking about, in the little cups. They were indeed with the Soup section, amongst the "cup-o-noodles" and the like.

Portable too. you only need a fork, as they are their own bowl. Easy to take to work when on mushies. The butter flavor is only 140 calories for the bowl.

Walmart has Idahoan Instant Mashed Potatoes in Individual PKGS. Makes 2 Cups. Comes in Herb and Butter, 4 cheese, and Southwestern Mash. I add chicken broth after I've made them and set aside what I want to eat so they are extra smooth. Enjoy! Stelis2

When you're on mushies, and the surgeon's/nutritionist's diet sheet specifically says mashed potatoes as a valid choice, then yes, I think mashed potatoes are a good choice, esp. to add variety to the mushies diet.

I make those mashed all the time, my husband always says I bet you added Protein to these...lol ( he's a bypass, I'm a bandser)

and of course I did. He never knew till I told him one day

I think that any surgeon/nutritionist who puts mashed potatoes on a patient's diet during any stage is doing that patient a disservice.

Not me, that was the first mushy I had, with garlic, I can still remember my first bite after being on liquids for two full weeks. Although, today, my band does not like taters of any kind, which I guess is a blessing, but I sure do miss them.

I think mashed potatoes or anything else is supposed to be ok in moderation with the band. The point is not something so runny it just goes through, and to eat Protein first.

But when you are on purreed foods or mushies its hard to think of a lot of Protein only things you can purree. I have had a half cup of mashed sweet potatoe now that I am on purreed food and added some unflavored Protein Powder in it and it was nutritious and filling.

Not all bandsters are aiming for super low carb eating as their goals. You can loose weight without going super low carb as long as you are watching your portions.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
