So What Was Next For You??

Recommended Posts

So I have just finished my 6 months under my doctor and nutritionist. I have 1 last appointment with my Doc nest Thurs, then they will be submitting my request to the Insurance Company. I have read on here that a lot of people had Pre-Op diets. My question was,

When did you find out about the pre-op diet? What was the purpose of the diet? Do you still do the diet if you lose weight prior to your Band date.

Thank you again for the support and the knowledge that you are all sharing! <3 I appreciate it! I just want to be successful in the journey!

I found out about the Pre-op liquid diet about 9 days before my surgery, diet was for 7 days. It's a liquid diet so there is not any solids in your stomach so it will be smaller when they do the surgery. I've heard of people losing about 5 pounds or so during this week, which will help your surgery and recovery go smoother. Good luck with your surgery! Keep us posted and let us know if you have any other questions!

New Me-

Thank you for the info! I can't wait to get this process started! It sound like the Pre-Op is similar to the Post- Op diet. I have to remember to take this whole processes patiently. Thank you again! and I look forward to using this site as a tool to be successful :D I appreciate you!

My pre-op diet lasted for 3 weeks due to my BMI. The doctor basically told me if I didn't follow it, my liver would not shrink enough and he would not be able to do the surgery. I was given advance notice so I was able to try different shakes to see what worked for me. I lost close to 20 pounds on that diet alone? That was a shake for breakfast, shake for lunch and a small, nutritious meal for dinner. SF popcicles were my snack. I even cheated a few times and had a few turkey sausage links as snack.

After surgery, it was kind of trial and error for me. The gas sucks. I am 8 days post op and I think have finally gotten rid of it. I could barely walk it hurt so much but, thanks to someone who posted advice on this board, a rocking chair really helped work the gas out. That and Milk of Magnesia.

I am doing mushies right now and eating a banana. I have been munching on this poor thing for about 30 minutes because I have to take such little bitty bites.

Good luck to you!

fostermamma...

I have not heard about the rocking chair! I will have to remember that. I have heard people trying anything from walking to a stationary bike to help get rid of the gas pains. I have heard everyone raving about SF popsicles. Who has the best ones? You are not the only person to share that secret. Thank you so much. Congrats on your recent band! You enjoy that banana... :) And thank you again.

My pre op diet was two weeks and the same as above--proteing shakes for B and L and a low carb/fat dinner. I lost 18 pounds and followed it religiously because of the liver being too large scare!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
