I have been tracking my carbohydrates for the past 2 weeks and noticed my intake is between 40-80 grams . I am wondering if this is too much?

Anyone know what would be considered a good ideal carbohydrate index daily. I tried googling it, but it varies and its very confusing.

Any insight would be helpful!

Is that 40-80 per day? Sounds like an awful lot.

I am having issues with eating too much overall, mostly in carbs.

Just make sure the carbs you consume are complex and not simple carbs. Flour products made from bleached white flour is like eating sugar. So are potatoes.

I've never counted much of anything. I just make sure I'm eating enough food and keep it balanced. I may be eating 80 carbs a day right now because I'm eating so much fruit that is seasonal. That will slow down now that fresh local fruit is waning.

There is a difference between naturally occurring carbs, such as those found in fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and dairy products, and those which are actually sugars or refined flours. The foods which have added sugars are ones which I am supposed to avoid.

Our brain needs glucose to function, so we do need some carbs. My surgeon does allow 1 serving of complex carbs, such as sweet potato every day.

I don't count calories or carb grams...I only do my best to make healthy choices for meals.

Thank you everyone! I was worried I was eating too much a day. I am getting in good carbs from fresh fruits and whole wheat grains such as oatmeal, cheerios, and whole wheat bread. I have done away with white flour completely. The last few days I was hiting the 80 mark and was really worried. Then I realized I was drinking healthy juices I was making with carrots, apples, pears, and peaches. Not all at once. Like yesterday I had apple and carrots juiced.

I also had to cut out other juices I was drinking from my diet, such as orange juice, apple juice, grape juice, and prune juice. They are all very high in carbs and I will drink them occassionaly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
