I am on day 13 - last day tomorrow. First 3 days were tough, but now, it is easy peasy. They are really filling and you have to try to get all of them in. (I was to have 4/day and didn't get there most days - 3 - 3.5). I found them easier to get down if they were ice cold, blended and drank them with a straw because I couldn't stand the smell. I added coffee and chocolate flavoring to the vanilla and drank the chocolate ones straight. Many other have added an assortment of SF syrups, crystal light etc.

I stayed away from people who were eating and as I live alone, didn't have to cook for anyone. I even traveled out of country on business this week and packed my shaker jar and Optifast packages, and even made one on the plane as I was starving.

It seems really tough on day 1 and I gagged my way thru them, but once you get them figured out, it really isn't that bad.

Good luck.

I was only allowed 4 shakes, 1 serving of fruit, 1 serving of veggies and for a treat - not daily - sf popsicles and sf Jello

I'm on day 5. My biggest problem is squeezing all the shakes and Water in. I feel like I'm constantly sipping something. My doctor set a limit of 1200 calories a day, and I've yet to hit that level. I'm coming in around 1000 to 1100 calories daily.

I felt awful until day 4. Headache from hell and I was starving. I was on liquid shakes from Optifast and found if you add ice and put them in a blender there is more of it and its better... I was alowed 2 sugar free popsicles each day. And caffine free tea or coffee. broth was ok but not encouraged so I didnt. And of course Water Water water. It was horrible to be honest but I was so excited for the surgery it somehow got me through it. The crowning glorig was on the day before surgery my Dr told me I lost 22 lbs in those 2 weeks. I learned that I didnt need to eat my way through a day and I still survived.

All the best to you!

You are all so encouraging. I am so excited to get the surgery and know this too shall pass. I see now as a result of this that it will be better for me to stay off until I am at least up to soft foods.

I must look through my binder again but I feel unclear as to the number of shakes and/ or calories I can have in a day.

Some of you are really lucky. I was allowed 2 shakes per day and then some low carb veggies at night and that was it.At 1 point I thought I couldn't continue because I felt so weak but amazingly I managed to get through. The difference is that there is that end goal that you are aiming for. prior to the surgery I hadn't lasted on a liquid diet for more than 2 days.

I was allowed 3 Protein shakes a day, it was so hard when you are used to eating like I was, probably 3000 cals a day. I was so dizzy, weak and head hunger, oh now that was bad!!! But I looked at the big picture, at the end result. I did however have to call my surgeon on day 4 because I was so weak and he allowed me a hard boiled egg and then told me to retreat to a Protein Bar but not to make it a habit so that is what I did. Not to tell you to cheat but that is how I survived. I'm 3 months post op and doing great, some ups/downs, still learning how to eat (small bites) a few stuck episodes but I'm down 35 lbs and its all worth it. You can do this, I know you can. We are all here for you. I found Protein Shakes at GNC, their brand called Lean shakes in Swiss choc., they will let you even sample them there, they are wonderful. Good luck and remember, it will all be over before you know it!!!

going one day at a time and making up my mind to do it

if you want to have this surgery, i mean really, do what you need to do

in order for it to happen. be your own inspiration.

its hard, i know...but you are prepping your body for surgery. dont cheat

you only cheat yourself. hang in there okay...its only for alittle while...

I am on day 3 and it is tough! There are people in the house cooking and it's very tempting. There are people at work bringing goodies, so that continues to test me. I am starving and also was the head hunger is testing me. Mentally it's tough to drink the shake bc I am not big fan of the whey Protein smell.

Hoping that keeping myself busy will work and that it gets easier.

Go out and buy yourself some straws.....they helped me tremendously, I was gagging on day 1. I also added some instant coffee, cut the smell and taste a bit. ......good luck

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.
