YES! I have had trouble since my surgery, which was June 22nd. I spoke with my surgeon, I take 2 100mg stool softeners a day and that has helped tremendously. I am able to go like normal without getting and upset stomach. I was told this is normal our bodies have been though a lot it can take 6 months or so for it to regulate. I was also told do not use a stimulate laxitive because the body will become dependent. Try the softeners first.

Yes, the pain meds and dehydration are to blame. Take some over the counter meds ASAP to get it going. Then start taking benefiber or medimusal to maintain. Drink as much Water as you can. This can get serious quickly and you don't want to need an enima. Good Luck

Just got off the phone with my doc. Wanted to be sure I had his blessing to take anything. He told me to take a bottle of magnesium citrate, followed by 8 oz. Of water......still waiting. Pleaaaase!

The only remedies which have worked for me are to take Benefiber, get some Fiber from my meals(I usually have a salad and fresh fruit everyday), and drink alot of Water.

After just over 6 months post op, things have gotten better than they were newly post op.

Any one else have issues with having a bm After surgery? Had surgery on 9/11 feel like I'm blocked up. It's getting painful. Normal?

Miralax works very nicely...I work in a surgery office. We usually recommend a scoop of miralax twice a day until you have a good bowel movement. Good luck to you!

I am almost a year from surgery and still on stool softeners and miralax twice a week. Don't forget that a daily BM is not the norm for Bandsters!

I have a question....Why is a daily BM not the norm for Bandsters?? This may be TMI, but I go pretty much every day. Should I be concerned?

It's the norm for any Bariatric surgery patient because you are taking in less total number of calories and less food....less going in means less coming out...it sits in your colon a little longer because there is less behind it pushing it out.

I had that problem the week after surgery and I used Milk of Mag and that worked, I was starting to get really worried and you don't want to be straining after having surgery on your stomach, may be TMI, but hey, it happens. :) I took Probiotics before surgery that kept me regular and after surgery, when I was allowed to (2 weeks), I got back on them and they keep me regular. They don't work overnight, as for that 2 weeks I could not take them, I could definitely tell, but I'm now 2 months out from surgery and back on track. The Pearl probiotics are really, really small so no problems with taking them now or in the future with a tighter band. Just another option to add to the list. Oh and like the above commenter said, my nutritionist said about the only thing sugar free candy is good for is if you are constipated, lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
