Looking For The Perfect Insurance Company:-)

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone! I'm in search of a health insurance company that will pay for most or all of my lap band surgery. I have recently checked with a few local ones and anthem blue cross blue shield seems to be the only one that will cover me with me being 5'7 @ 310 lbs. I really want to find a health insurance company that will take me at my weight and cover most or all of my lap band surgery costs.

Thank you,

The unfortunate reality is that you are not likely to find an insurance onthe open market that will pay for your surgery and if you do it will cost $1000/mo or more & have an 18-24 month waiting period before WLS is covered, or hey might have a huge deductable(10,000+). Insurance companies simply are not in business to lose money, & allowing someone to pay a few hundred dollars in premiums & covering a $10,000 elective surgery just doesn't make sense for them.

My suggestion would be to pursue a job that has a group plan that covers it, or save up and consider Mexico or seek out self pay discounts.

If you try that your monthly payment and deductible will be insane. I am on my moms insurance and at the time of surgery I was 5'9 and 350lbs. My mom only had to pay 600 for my surgery because she has kick ass insurance through the hospital where she works, which is also where I had the surgery done in February.

If I were you, I would look in to self pay options like care credit.

Best wishes

Are you eligible for state insurance?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
