Restriction??? Weight Isn't Budging At 2 Months...

Recommended Posts

radarluv,

You have many questions that I think you ought to discuss with your surgeon and/or nutritionist. We're all different. Hopefully that group you're going to will shed some light.

Good luck and don't beat yourself up!

Thanks, and I do not communicate with my Dr. anymore due to conflicts with his office staff (namely his head RN). I go back to TR on the 18th and I thought this forum was to discuss LB issues. I know how long I am supposed to wait to drink, I was just curious as to how long others felt comfortable. I did tell the nutritionist about my drinking and eating problem, and she said that if that is the worst thing I did then I was coming along pretty good. I have fired my doc (due to the RN, not the doc, and yes, it was THAT severe) since then.

I am sure I need more of a fill, it just seems like 4cc is an awful lot, but my max weight was 210, so maybe it will take more cc's to get more restriction? I dunno.

Like I said, I am starting over today, just like some reassurance.

I am not eating THAT much, but I am still making the bad choice. For example, I cannot finish a whole chicken breast fried, and I can only eat 2 ribs at a time. But it is still more than the liquid diet that took the forst 20+ lbs off in the first place.

the liquid diet was to get your liver and body ready for surgery. And to teach you that you can live with out eating food. You cannot sustain on it or compare losses to eating food.

For me to lose this weight I had to decide how many calories I can eat to lose ... 1000 is my number. I measure and track everything I put in my mouth... I use a kitchen scale and measuring cups and the application on my phone which tracks calories. I could show you what I ate exactly for the past 22 months....LOL

I was very strict with myself. Not so much anymore as I am 10 lbs from goal but now is where the band really shines.... For example...last night my husband and I were grabbing a bite before attending a function. He wanted BBQ. SO I could have gotten any number of things but I opted for the BBQ chicken which consisted of a leg and thigh. The sides were "greens" I hate, baked Beans etc... so I just asked for a baked potato / butter on side. The meal came and I got the chicken and potatoe and a HUGE roll. First think I did was as for a to go box. I removed the roll. Then I cut my potato in half and removed one half from my plate. Then I took the skin off the checken leg and thigh and started to eat the meat. I would say It was 3 oz of meat. I ate most of it w/ BBQ Sauce. I also ate most of the potato 1/2... about 1/4 c or so. Thats it. I was so full.... and didnt think about food until this morning. Granted I would have preferred 1/4 potato and some veggies but they only had leafy greens and that doesnt sit well with me...and I dont care for them anyway. But Thats how well this band can work. I hope that helps.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
