Soft Food Questions.

Recommended Posts

I am not really sure about the soft food stage of my band. I understand that you must eat soft food (sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, oatmeal, apple sauce, ect.) But, how much do you eat? The whole cup of jello? A whole serving of oatmeal? I am post op and STARVING! (I assume this too, is normal?!)

My dietitian said 1/4 to 1/2 cup. But every Dr is different.

Are you able to call and talk with your surgeons office?

I got so much paperwork on diet, foods to eat & foods to avoid. I'm glad I did b/c when they're telling you it's like info over load.

mine (afer surgery and on mushies) was 2 or 3 oz...you are still kinda swollen so dont over do it

but like my best girlfriend maddys, call and ask your doctor for the 100% correct answer

all the best :)

You should've been given a diet plan by your surgeon's office to follow post op. What you are describing is the mushie phase not the soft food phase.

If you don't have it for some reason, contact your surgeon to see what they recommend.

I am in the same boat! They gave me all kinds of information on what to eat on the post-op diet but not how much. I had a cup a Tomato basil Soup last night and tonight and a shake for breakfast and lunch. I'm actually only supposed to have 3 shakes a day until Thursday but I found the soup isn't any thicker than the shakes.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
