Why Can People On The Realize Band Eat Sooner Then Thoes On Lapband

Recommended Posts

Why is it that the people who have the realize band able to eat foods faster then the lapband? ive been googling to try and see if i can find an answer but nothing is showing

As per the paper my surgeon gave me:

Full liquids 1 week realize band 2 weeks lapband

soft foods 1 week later realize band 2 weeks lap

soilds 1 week later realize 2weeks lapband

comparing them they are very similar so why is it they can eat before lapbanders?

My Dr told me the Lapband has a little restriction from the get go, where you Realize does not.

I have a realize band put in, and just as Mis73 has indicated this has nothing to do with what type of band you have, in fact it is the personal choice of your surgeon of what food plan to put you on.

BTW, I was on liquids for 2 weeks, soft foods on week 3/4 and solids on my 5th week.

There are two types of bands.. Allergan and Realize - You can google the difference between both for more info :)

Well when my Dr asked me which band I wanted and I told him I hadn't a clue. I ask him if there was any difference between them. I quote " LB has a little restriction right away, while Realize takes a few fills to get any restriction". Being I'm working on getting knee replacement, I chose the LB.

What can I tell you.

on the doctors instructions it showed they can eat foods sooner then lapbanders, i was just curious as to why. i guess it was the drs choice :)

as was stated, i am sure the surgeon has their (own) way of doing things and rules to follow

doesnt make sense but best to follow

all the best :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
