Staples..glue..or Stitches?

Recommended Posts

I had dissolvable stitches on the inside than steri strips on the outside. I just took my Steri strips off today and I can barely see the small incisions the port incisions about two inches long and I've started applying mederma on it..

They said they would cover the TT..cause the lose skin could cause a rash or cause a change in posture..I know I'm a long long a way from one but was excited to hear they would cover it

I've had 3 abdominal surgeries:

1-lap convert to open Staples

2-open standard stitches

3-lap dissolvable stitches & steri-strips

Its doctors preference and yours based on history. If you have a history of issues with dissolvable stitches they should not use them.

They didn't go through my actual belly button but they did put a port site right on the top of it. For both of the 2 laporscopic ones. That seems to be a popular central port site.

I also had a c-section in 2010. I know I Will have a flabby stomach. Insurance might possibly cover a Tummy Tuck? ! That would be awesome!

Just be careful too about the TT. When it is done by a general surgeon ask what the final result will look like. My mom had the gastric bypass and lost a lot of weight. Her surgeon did the TT and it's a little freaky that he didn't leave any belly button or "make" a new one. Sure, she isn't wearing any bikinis but it took her a lot of getting used to as funny as it sounds. ;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
