Hi all,

I'm 193 lbs, 5'4, bmi 33. I'm on the fence about getting the lapband. These are my concerns...

1. Complications. They say lapband is forever but does anyone know anyone who has had the band for a long time? > 20 years?

2. If for some reason I need to take the band out, will I gain back the weight quickly? The doctor I spoke to said yes you will definitely gain the weight back if you get it taken out. This is actually my biggest concern.

3. I feel guilty... Like I'm taking the easy route.

4. I'm self pay. If I have future complications will my insurance pay for it?

Any advice?

Thanks,

Laurie

*I feel guilty... Like I'm taking the easy route. *

4 weeks of all liquid diets

10+ pre op's tests and appts

2 weeks of blood thinner shots in my stomach

numerous visits to doctors to get records for insurance

yep, this is an easy route.

NOT

whomever says the lap band is easy has not had one or dealt with the things I have had to do in order to get it.

(some may not have had to do what i had to do)

this is a decision only you can make.

and i wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do or not do :)

FYI- if you overeat (high fat junk food etc, whether you have the band in or out or not one at all) you will gain weight.

Oh honey, I knew the statement "easy way out" might come back to bite you in the butt.

Stalk LBT for awhile and find out how "easy" it is.LOL

There's a lot to learn on what and what not the band will do. Do your homework and ask any questions.

Good luck on your journey!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
