Help! Am I "stuck"?????

Recommended Posts

I am about 4 1/2 weeks out of surgery and today I woke up feeling terribly sick to my stomach. I feel nauseaus and I just want to curl up in a ball and go back to sleep but of course I am at work.

I have heard stories about being "stuck" and I am wondering if that's what is going on.

Yesterday I had a piece of french toast for Breakfast. Then for lunch I made a blended chocolate/peanutbutter smoothie (milk, Protein shake mix, ice & 1 table spoon of peanutbutter). For dinner I had a grilled cheese sandwich and some Tomato Soup. I felt like my day went pretty well but I was very full after dinner. This was my first time really eating bread and now I am wondering if it was a bad idea.

Any tips or ideas?

I haven't had any fills yet - my first one will be Oct 4th. And I am already down 23 pounds since I started my journey in June.

Thanks

No, I don't believe that you are experiencing a stuck episode...if you were, believe me you would know it.

Nausea is not a symptom of being stuck...but pain and sliming are. If it a stuck episode you should have realized it immediately.

I hope you feel better...

Having had a few "stuck" episodes, I don't think that is what you are experiencing. Typically, they are painful and cause a lot of pressure in your chest. Also, I think you would have felt it within minutes after eating.

I have seen several people coming down with the flu, perhaps you are just coming down with a virus of some sort. If you are having vomiting, you may want to call your doctor to get some anti nausea meds.

I hope you feel better soon!

No, not having a stuck episode. Most stuck episodes will pass within 15 minutes and you can expect extreme discomfort, sliming and maybe some PBing.

But, what a diet you are on? Griled cheese sandwiches and french toast? Might be OK once in a while but I doubt you'll lose weight if you continue to eat these foods. Very little nutrition in what you are eating. Flour products have little nutritional value to them even if they are whole wheat. Once you get some fills you may find that you can no longer eat these types of food so the band may eliminate them from your diet.

I know I really missed bread in the beginning. I still sneak in a LC slim bread or bagel with some deli turkey turkey on it. And, the occasional low carb tortilla with grilled chicken and homemade salsa tides me over. But, the band has directed my appetite in a different direction such as more fruit, vegetable of all kinds and leaner meats. Sometimes I think I don't even need this stupid band. But it scares the heck out of me if I ever lost it as a tool.

23 lbs is great.

This was the first time I have had bread since getting banded that's why I was scared. My diet usually consists of a Protein shake for Breakfast (sometimes a yogurt too) then yogurt and fruit for lunch with a sugar free pudding and for dinners I have been doing different veggie combinations with some chicken or something a little filling. I have had Pasta a couple times and did okay. But like I said it was the first time I have had bread and I felt like I over did it. I felt very full lady night. Today I feel nauseaus and do have some chest pain but I drank my Protein Shake earlier and did have any issues. I just don't want to add to the issue by earring more. Also I very rarely vomit when I am sick usually just the big D but none of that either so idk if its viral.

Thanks for all the advice.

I'm heading out to Mexico in two months and the thought of getting sick from Water or food scares the crap out of me. Vomitting is a good way to cause a band slippage. If you think about it, your stomach actually contorts itself with a violent ejection of food in your stomach. This can cause your band to tear away from the sutures that were recently sewn into your stomach to keep the band from slipping around. I know you nor I would ever want to intentionally cause this to happen but I try to go out of my way to avoid stomach bugs. So why am I going to Mexico? I love danger? Nah! I love Mexico, the beach and some peaceful solitude.

I'm going on a 7 day cruise this Sunday anyone with a band had any difficult experiences or any advice on what they went through?

I took a cruise last November. i had no trouble, because I knew where to draw the line. Remember your rules! As far as vomiting, I have heard(not sure where) that we can no longer do regular vomiting. We can pb but once the food has passed through to the stomach, it can't pass back the other way, when you are banded.(???) I am not sure about that, tho'. My surgeon has suggested that if you are aware of flu bug around, such as teachers, you have Fluid taken out. Best wishes to all. Karen

Oh my. A few more fills, and you may be done with french toast and grilled cheese. ;) I've had no bread at all since being banded (mostly out of fear).

I am a bread lover and I can tell you this, kiss it good bye because you could get your self in a world of hurt if you don't, I can eat bread only if I drink fluids with it but that's pointless because I'm not making my band work for me, it's really hard though, I have lost my motivation. I can eat a tiny piece of bread if I chew it up really well and then I'm full but if I drink something I'm hungry again.

I have been struggling with that because I love bread, but I have slowly been trying to break my self from it and just have to go with out the bread, eatting an open faced hamburger (lean, with mustard and a little bit of ketchup and mayo) and eat it slow and chew a lot, 1/2 to 3/4 of a 1/4 lb patty and I am full, I just have to re-learn to do without bread, eat slow and most importantly STOP when you are full and NOT clean the plate, dish small portions and read something when eatting.

I share your frustration and fears though

That doesn't sound like a "stuck" episode. When I was 4 1/2 weeks out I was able to eat the same items you described. It wasn't until this last fill that I started feeling those horrible "stuck" pains. I'll bet you are just healing. Good luck to you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
