Home from hospital - my band slipped.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, thanks for all the well wishes. Susan, that's an excellent question about my stitches - I will have to ask when I go in for my follow up in a few weeks. We talked about it before my surgery, but they never confirmed that they were pulled loose.

My new band is the same size as before (4cc capacity). Jerseytammy, I'm not sure how the different insurances work with revisions. I'm lucky - I have UHC and they will cover the new band. I have to follow the same diet as the first time around, but I'm so relieved to still have a band I don't mind. I'm sure I'll change my tune when the appetite returns in a few days. :)

I'm already scared to get a fill - think they'll put in .1cc at a time? :)

I tried to answer any questions but I'm still spacey - feel free to PM me. I love you guys.

:) So sorry to hear of your slip. It's hard to pin down 'why' these things happen, as in life - some things just are what they are. You deal with it and move on. :) I sincerely wish you a quick recovery and hope your new band is your best friend for years to come..

Hugs..

I'm so sorry to hear about your slip. At the same time, I am glad that it was fixed so quickly. I wonder if all doctors would fix it at the same time they remove the slipped band, or if it varies doctor to doctor. I think it's great you were able to have it fixed so quickly. Here's to a speedy and painless recovery!

I too have worried about the complications that may occur. I have quit pop but I didnt know about the NSAID's what is the story with those?

Thanks for the post. I also eat too fast, but know I need to slow down. Maybe I can learn from someone else's mistake.

Take care and speedy recovery to you.

Take care and speedy recovery to you.

The stuff that makes NSAID's work also thins the protective mucous layer of the stomach. So, it doesn't matter whether is it is crushed or taken as a liquid...it isn't the FORM of the drug but the CHEMISTRY of it that causes problems.

Have you noticed all the drugs--and commercials for drugs--for stomach problems? Proton pump inhibitors and all that? those drugs ar not just for wls patients. They have become necessary since all those NSAID's came on the market. A banded stomach is at least as at-risk as a normal stomach...

Meanwhile, Tylenol can take out your liver. One risk after another.

Tylenol kills even healthy adults by causing a type of liver poisoning.

And my former nephrologist (liver doctor) who is British is still wondering about the link with Tylenol and LapBanding but he's convinced there is one. Especially since the UK has had banding so much longer, he thinks there will be some long term effects of Tylenol (or acetaminophen) use there before we even see it here.

And of course, evidence suggests NSAIDs are detrimental to bands, too.

So where does that leave us? If only we knew all the answers

Happy Band Journeys to all...

Anne,

How are you doing? I am so glad you got to keep your band and your surgery was easier than the original.

I am having revision surgery on Monday for a slip. Did your reflux go away altogether - right away? The last few nights have been AWFUL. I wake up constantly with a burning stomach. Sometimes I can throw up and relieve the burning and sometimes I can't and have to get up for a while.

Thank you,

Shanna, I've been thinking of you! Yes - my reflux did go away immediately. It was such a relief that the surgical pain was worth it. For me, the second time around has been easier. They used my original scars, and you can hardly tell that they've been opened. My stomach feels great and I can eat anything. Okay, I guess that's only a partial positive... ;)

I'm so sorry that you're going through this too, but just wanted you to know that there's light at the end of the tunnel.

I have some more thoughts, but I'll send you a PM.

Anne,

Oh, I'm so glad your reflux went away. Isn't that the worst? Thanks so much for your pm and I'm so glad to have learned of your excellent recovery. I'm actually starting to look forward to surgery - I guess that's what pain does to ya.

Thanks again! You've been a blessing!

Mine has slipped also, but it wasn't causing problems, so we are checking into my insurance to see if they will pay anything. I was self pay. I am starting to have stomach pain, and was wondering what kind of pain were you experiencing?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
