What Can't You Eat After Surgery

I was told we shouldn't because it can cause gas and stretch the pouch

Some can and some can"t drink carbonated beverages. I gave them up 2 years ago, it was hard at first. I have had one or two in the past two yeats but they always make me belch worse than I normally do and i don't like the flat.

The carbonation is the problem. I have a soda stream and make my own soda so I can control the amount of carbonation. I was a HUGE Diet Pepsi drinker and after the my surgery I stopped and really don't care for it anymore. The Soda Stream is worth the investment if you are jonesing for a soda.

Lap band surgery was a good excuse to break a bad habit, since I was addicted to Diet Pepsi. I haven't had one since January 17, 2012. I have had a couple of sips of diet sodas since surgery, but it just doesn't feel quite right. I'm glad I have broken that habit, just like I'm glad I broke the smoking habit many years ago!

Can you no longer consume carbonated beverages after banding?

According to my dr you cannot. That's one of his 3 rules.

In case you are interested the other two rules are

1 Agree to monthly visits until you reach goal and

2 do not eat more than 6 oz of food at a time and that should take you 20 minutes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
