Getting Banded On Sep 17

Recommended Posts

So finally after almost a year long process I am looking surgery straight in the eye and not going lie, I'm scared! After years of losing weight and putting it back on I am ready to put an end to it. I have never been in the hospital , unless you count the day I was born, nevermind had surgery of any kind so recently I have been thinking "i cant go through with it". I dont want to chicken out since I have been dreaming of this day. Any words of advice?

I am also being banded on the 17th and right now can only think day to day of getting thru the pre op diet. Just think a week or 2 of pure recovery is going to rush by after waiting a year and in 4-5 weeks, you should be back to normal and on your way to a new you. I know I will be freaking out this time next week, but if you are like me..........if I don't do this, I will probably die.

congratulations!!

Stay calm, treat the next 2 weeks as a time of great anticipation, give yourself time to relax and do something you enjoy, also set aside a few minutes each day to feel..... sad, angry, afraid... and then go about your day.

But, most of all plan your future !

Thank you so much for support!!!! I guess im more just freaking out about the surgery aspect of it all. Any chance they can put me out now to make it through the week lol? (jk of course). Im hoping the surgery/hospital period is over as quick as everyone says but the one thing that keeps me going is knowing I can't possibly continue the way I am. Looking forward to reacquainting myself with a slightly improved version of my old self :) reading the threads on here has been helpful in pushing me forward! Thank you again!

Good luck, surgery is not bad. Just remember to get up and start walking as soon as they will let you. Walking is the best thing to get rid of the gas they fill you up with.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
