Did you get gas-x strips or chewables? If not, get your daughter to get you some and walk , walk, walk. This was the advice I have gotten from my girlfriend who had her surgery two years ago. Hope you feel better soon!

Yep, sounds like gas. The heating pad and gas X will help. Walk as much as you can and try not too swallow extra air when you drink liquids.< /p>

oh I feel for you, yes it's gas. Gas X and heating pad and much walking and moving around to work out that air they pump you full of during surgery. Make sure you are drinking plenty and stay hydrated. The pain meds ended up making me severely constipated to where I was nauseated and couldn't drink and was taking nausea meds so had to resort to taking Magnesium Citrate to move me, just a thought. Hope you feel relief soon.

I had my surgery on the 4th. I'm still having pain as well but the walking is def helping. I dunno how your sleeping but if I lay on my back it makes it worse the next day. I've learned to sleep propped up . Luckily for me I got liquid pain meds and I've yet to vomit (I'm being very careful with drinking). I didn't think about gas x though. Glad I looked on here.

It will get better, heating pad and walking were the only things that helped me. Walk as much as you can.

walk, heating pad, gas-x strips, maybe some liquid pain meds, although if the pain is really from gas, the pain meds could make it worse.....

I did find walking the best remedy.

I too have the shoulder pain but the worse is in the center of my chest like I've had a bad cough. I think it's from the hernia repair.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
