My insurance won't pay so out of pocket will be about 13k. It's going to be very hard to convince my hubby to let me finance this because he already believe I should lose weight the old fashioned way. Any suggestions on how to get insurance to pay? I wanted to lose a min of 50 lbs and a max of 70 lbs. some may thinks that's not enough for surgery but I have a fat person living in the inside so I'm always on the weight roller coaster.

His mindset is a difficult one to overcome. Even fat people believe that crap. So they keep dieting and lose and then gain again. I've lost 50 lbs and my daughter made a comment last weekend that obese people are just too lazy to eat less. To keep harmony in the family I ignored the comment.

If your insurance won't pay because it's not part of your employer's plan, you're out of luck. If it's because you have a low BMI, you may be able to have the surgery but you will have to have co-morbids to qualify and a willing PCP who will go to bat for you?

Thanks but my insurance won't pay because it's not part of our plan. I was reading somewhere and somebody posted that the doctor put they were having a hernia surgery for them to have the surgery. So while removing the hernia they had the lapband done also.

Insurance fraud is a serious crime and I wouldn't recommend you solicit your surgeon to do it. There are far too many eyes in surgery and too many whistleblowers to attempt something like that.

jmo of course.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
