Hi. I've been reading all the posts on this site for the past few days and am feeling absolutely inspired. I'm considering getting the lap band now that I have reached a personal high in my weight. I don't need to tell you all that I've been through cause it's the same story as many of you have. I've always fought this battle and this year I believed I was making some big changes but instead gained 30 lbs! I work out constantly, eat normally, but I've always struggled and now after having my son at 40, I just can't do this anymore. I try so hard for nothing! I just can't let this weight creep up any farther. I'm my pregnancy weight at 9 mo. ! 200 lbs. that was such a shocker for me so I asked my doc if the lap band was an option. I know it's not as much as some but I'm so tired of this weight . You know how I feel. By the time I'm 50 maybe I'll be 250 and so on... I haven't brought this up to my husband yet but I'm so excited about this option from all your stories. So my BMI is 32 and I'm guessing I should lose about 50 at least. I just want to like myself again...

Thanks for any thoughts....

You may have trouble getting the insurance to pay with a BMI of 30. Mine was 37 and I ended up self pay. It has certainly been worth it though. The band is a major life style change, you might want to think about waiting until the baby has settled it. I think doing both at the same time would be very stressful, and stress makes me eat!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
