Jess55 97 Posted September 7, 2012 My surgeon had never told me like I could not have an MRI or anything. I just want to check though, there should not be any metal in the port of anything right? I've been having knee pain for the past 4 months and finally went to the doc and am having an MRI on Tuesday. I just want to double check that there's no metal in me to interfere with the MRI. I've been close to the MRI machine at work and have never felt a pull on my abdomen. I have had my glasses being pulled away from my face due to the MRI. But I've never been under it to be sure nothing will pull in my abdomen. So let me know if anyone else has had an MRI. Thanks. BTW, I won't call my doc since I have not been back there in over a year and will feel very awkward. Thanks!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted September 7, 2012 I have to have MRIs yearly and have been assured there's no problem with the band and MRIs. I was told this not only by my surgeon but my neurologist.
Sojourner 2,446 Posted September 7, 2012 I have had several MRI's since having my band placed. There are no metal parts in the band, which I did verify ahead of time with my bariatric surgeon and the tech who conducted the studies. No negative side effects at all...so no worries... Maddysgram 6,159 Posted September 7, 2012 This was really a good question! I would have never gave it a thought. Thanks! Recently my GD needed an MRI but she has a clip in her heart and it took 6mths to find out what kind of metal they used. If it was a real emergency not knowing this could cause a problem. Jess55 97 Posted September 7, 2012 Good. I did not think there was, but someone once mentioned metal clips in the port. Not sure if some of them have this or not. Thanks guys!
