Did anyone have to do blood thinner injections after surgery? I had to do 2 weeks worth that ended on Wednesday. I am bruised on both sides of my stomach even after following the directions!! That is what I'm having issues with right now. Other than that, everything has went fine since surgery. So glad to be able to eat tuna and other baked fish!! : -)

I'm sure your doctor order the lovenox as a precautionary measure to avoid blood clots. Not every doctor does this but that's okay. Prevention is important :). The bruises from the injection are very normal and will take time to dissipate. Good luck and congrats on your mushy stage!

yes, i had to do them and my hub put them in my tummy for me in the a.m. and then in the p.m. i also got bruising. my dr said that was to be expected and not to worry. (yep it looked as if i was in a MMA fight)

all the best. PS-the bruising goes away pretty quick :)

I only had one injection of Lovenox just prior to my band surgery, and this medication was used as an alternative to Heparin, which I had an allergic reaction to last year when my colon surgery was done.

My surgeon wanted to use the heparin, but after discussing what happened with my previous surgery he agreed to Lovenox.

I have severe doubts that I could give myself an injection of anything without fainting!

Not only did I have them two weeks after surgery but I just had my first baby. 2 months into my pregnancy I was back on Lovenox (developed 2 more clots) and was on 100 mg, each syringe, twice a day until 6 weeks after my pregnancy. Needless to say, i'm a pro now BUT my stomach is still brusied and I have little lumps. You didn't do anything wrong.

I did have to do them after surgery for 2 weeks because I had developed a blood clot after surgery. I was not able to do them myself so my husband gave them to me. They were very painful to me and I did bruise a lot

I have them here ready to go for next week when I get home from the hospital. My neighbor is an RN and I have asked her to please give them to me, my huband dosen't want to...can't blame him and I don't want to either.

Probably only reason my husband did them for me was because he is a paramedic. When he couldn't do them I had a friend RN who do them for me.

My hubby was afraid to hurt me. I did them all myself, a couple things I learned:

Inject slowly and it won't sting

I would scratch with my nail and learned where to more sensitive spots were and avoided those

If you have the time, you can always ice before injecting

Never get on top of another bruise

Bruises and lumps are normal, you didn't do something wrong if you get them

Just remember that this is a very necessary precaution! Set an alarm and take them exactly as planned.

If I can do a couple hundred of these because of my pregnancy, you can totally do it. Little did I know my two weeks after my band was a trial run for many to come.

Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
