Can Liquids Stretch Pouch?

Recommended Posts

Yes, more questions from me.:)

I was also wondering if liquids can stretch the pouch. I sure feel too full. I am on full liquids still (8 days post op) and was hungry and had 3/4 c cream of broccoli Soup. A little too much I think.

I have come to think of my stomach like a baloon. No it has a rubberband about a third of the way up to create a small pouch. If I pour enough liquid in it can stretch out of proportion. And yes, you can get the PB's from too much liquid, just like anything else (OMG) I remember attempting a milkshake (it was so good) now if I am desperate for one, I split it with someone!

Been over a month since my last one, might be due soon, lmao.

Creamed Soup is sounding real good to me. Today is the first day I have had hunger pains growling from my tummy. I am a bit scared of trying anything because of my applesauce incident on Saturday. (Dry Heaves)

Leener, don't worry about stretching your pouch with liquids. Cain't be done! You will feel uncomfortably full LONG before you can take in any amount that will do any damage. That's your cue to stop consuming anything, when you feel full.

Remember, the stomach is made of soft, flexible material. It's supposed to stretch a little. If you are feeling full on cream Soup it means you've reached your capacity and should stop. That's all. You ABSOLUTELY will not damage your pouch on liquids. What doesn't fit will just come right back up.

maryb,

My surgery was exactly one week before yours. Applesauce is still something I have to be careful with. Take very small bites and move it around in your mouth a little bit. After that it should go down no problem. For me, eating is more difficult when I first wake up for an hour or more. If you have a cup of hot tea, small sips, it helps with the food following it.

There are lots of things that cause my chest to feel tight that I wouldn't have expected. I can't eat Jello Gelatin at all yet. Jello pudding (sugar free, fat free of course) goes down about the same as applesauce so I take small bites. How small? I usually just dip the spoon into the pudding and then lick the spoon - thats how small! Every day is getting a little bit easier for me, but I'm still on liquids until next Wednesday before moving on to mushies. I don't know if I'll be ready for mushies but I'll give it a try.

Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
