It's been about 6 months since my last fill. Doing great, lost 90 lbs! Started getting chest pain radiating to back, hurt to breathe off and on one day. Next day worse, couldnt eat. Went to hospital and went thru ekg, stress test, ct scan, x ray , the works ...heart is strong and healthy. No pain since. Completely gone!! When I got home I noticed I could eat a lot without the usual feeling of full. Now 2 wks later , still pain free, but can eat way too much!! Could my band have slipped?:? If so, what can they do about it? Surgery?? Could it be something else? help!

Sorry to say this, but since the hospital ruled out heart issues, yes, your band could have slipped. Call your surgeon for an appt ASAP. When caught early, a band slip can often be resolved with a complete unfill and rest period, after which you can gradully start adding Fluid back to the band. Depending on what type of slip it is (up onto the esophagus or further down onto the stomach), you may need surgery to reposition it. Usually an upper GI study will be enough to verify that the band has slipped. If the problem is being caused by band erosion (when the band migrates into the inside of the stomach), however, you may need an EGD to diagnose that.

Good luck!

i actually went to the doctor TODAY for the same reasons...pain when breathing, on and off or pain when burping or laying on my side. i was unfilled today and is scheduled for a GI test next week. i am a little afraid that i have no restricton but i'm trying not to worry too much. hopefully the band will fix its self (in the words of my doctor) and i won't need surgery again, but if i do, i will plan to go thru with it. this band has helped me more than anyone could imagine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
