I haven't had in instance of illness that makes me throw up since being banded. I know that if you get something like the stomach flu they recommend you go to your Dr to get a shot of Maxolon to help stop you throwing up.

No the band doesn't always slip when you vomit. It usually takes repeated vomiting to do that.

i worry also about things but you need to know that worrying about something that (could or could not happen) is pointless. if you get sick, you get sick. it happens. the band is sewn onto our tummy so from what others have told me (including jeannie/author of bandwagon, my surgeon etc) it would take alot of heavy, many many times of throwing up) to make it slip. but you must try not too. so relax. please. fretting gets you no where except in *on my gosh* land.

all the best.

the band wont automatically slip if you vomit because it is sewed in. However repeated expansion of the stomach could be problematic so my Dr advised getting it unfilled if you have a severe stomach virus for several days... I havent had to do that and I wouldnt think most people would. The band is very resiliant... trust it. ;)

I have wondered about that too but in almost 4 years hasn't been an issue. I would think an anti nausea medicine would help Cross that bridge when you come to it.

Yah, what they all said. ;)

You also may consider getting a flu shot. I also asked my doctor about throwing up at my appt. earlier this week and he said it would take a lot for that to happen.

thanks all! I will keep positive that a flu shot and my trusty bottle (of yet un-used ) Compazine will keep all safe and well. To all bandsters - thanks again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
