Biggest Challeges This Far?

Recommended Posts

I'm about 4 months post op and my biggest challenge has been my inability to eat meat. It just doesn't sit well with me anymore & it makes me sad:(. Let's face it, I'm a southern born black girl and we will fry up, smother or sautee anything with 4 legs:). I can't do steak at all & only dark chicken, which I'm not a huge fan of. It's frustrating. I think I may have to just stick to seafood & vegetarian style dishes.

My fav go to snack is chex mix Cereal, wheat or cinnamon. I put it in a plastic bag & through it in my purse. Buying the cereal is cheaper than the pre-made snack bags, plus you can add your own goodies if you like. I also eat a ton of Luch meat as a snack.

I'm sorta a rebel when it comes to drinking, I still drink during my meal & it doesn't seem to effect me. I don't drink as much but I do take a few sips.

My biggest challenge continues to be the mind set of changing my eating routine. I am starting to get it, but growing up with 3 meals at a set time and always having desert there was a hard nut to crack. I am trying to stay focused to only eating when I am hungry and not watching the clock!

So I had this Surgery' date=' Jan of 2012, and I was 265 and now I am 200. But I am noticing now this last 50 is hard to loose, and I had a biggest loser melt down this week, and just ate every sweet, etc. I need to stay focused, but getting bored with same food, salad, etc. How do you guys stay on track?[/quote']

So, as we used to say at weight watchers - if you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got." I was in the same shoes as you. I started at 250 and am now in the low 170s. The first 50 came off by generally following the eating rules, but I wasn't exercising. I slowly started an exercise routine with Zumba 2 times a week, then 3 and 4 times a week. One spin class a week. As much as I could.

It took me like 6 months to really get the exercise down. That way I was burning like 500 cals extra a day and able to take off the weight. It comes off like 1/2 lb to 1 lb a week. I also noticed that exercise curbed my appetite a lot (which is weird because pre-band I was always hungrier after exercising). I drink a lot during and after exercise and that keeps me full.

I am also sure to get an adjustment every time I lose 5 lbs. I am getting .05 cc each time and it is keeping me in the perfect green zone.

I am not perfect but hope that I can get down to surgeon's goal of 165 by my two year mark which is mid-November. Having defined goals helps too.

Wishing you luck!

My husband who has a band too was able to eat and drink for the first year and lose 100 lbs, but his weight loss stalled and he still has 80 lbs to go... Just a note!

Biggest challenge was bandster hell and having no restriction. Now I have some restriction and biggest challenge is not having any white flour! Everything good has white flour! I am really having to follow the rules now and choose not to eat the bad stuff.

I have vomited on steak a couple times. I think I have given up on the steak! I have even tried a filet mignon rare and soft, cut up small. Still couldn't keep it down!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
