A Little Liver Info...and I Get Banded Tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

I had my final weigh in today. I had lost weight during my pre op diet. I decided to be truthful and let my Doc know about my "cheat day." I was assured that I will be fine. He told me he has only not been able to perform one band surgery. Her liver was too big due to medical problems. He also let me know that when he first started doing this that he did not even require a pre op diet. He found that the liver be smaller made thing easier, but was not necessarily needed. That made me feel much better. I was so afraid my liver would be too big!

So anyways, all is good and I go in for surgery tomorrow morning!!

thats great news on your liver :)

but i know of 3 people who cheated on their pre ops and couldnt have the surgery and just last

week a person on this forum had that happen. you were lucky and i am glad. i wish you all the love/luck and success in the world.

to any newbies or pre banders reading this and think its okay... dont cheat even if you want too. you are only doing without for alittle while and only hurt yourself.

I agree with CarolinaGirl, with me, if I thought that cheating was acceptable I would end up cheating a few times. Believe me Loosing 10-20 lbs on the pre-op diet is such a motivation that you cant help but start off on the right foot.

My liver was pretty big but after the 2 weeks pre-op diet, my doctor said it looked good and only slightly enlarged when he did the surgery. I loved hearing that.

Hi there, Well first congrats! seconf i'm 2 weeks post op and I was supposed to lose 22lbs thats 5% of my weigh during my pre-op diet and I only lost 17lbs. I confess I did cheat a couple of times =( ( not proud) I ate 5 chicken nuggets from wendys, one zip of coke, another day I ate a chicke wrap and one time I even ate some Soup. Anyway I was allowed one lean meal a day so I shoud not have done that. After surgery my doctor told my family that he almost stopped the surgery because the liver was almost too big and almost unsafe to operate. I was only 5lbs under my pre-op goal weight and even he tough there wouldnt be an issue but there almost was. Best of luck to you tomorrow hope everything goes well for you. I invite you to see my journey on youtube. here is the link to my third video wich is my first day post-op ;-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
