Great list and Protein is UBER important. Get those Protein Shakes in for Breakfast and lunch and a well balanced meal at dinnertime. Exercise is very important, the weight is not coming off without effort. Good luck on your band and here's to a speedy recovery. I'm 13 days post-op and I feel I'm just about back to normal!

Awesome list! (I love the "don't weigh every day" rule...I'm putting that on MY list!)

My list is basically everything here already mentioned here:

Listen to your doc AND your body

Read the forum

Eat properly and exercise when cleared to do so

I have notes on my mirrors (I look at them and tell myself daily that I AM BEAUTIFUL, I CAN DO THIS, I WILL WEAR THAT < BY (DATE), I LOVE MYSELF AND THE WAY I LOOK, I WANT TO BE HEALTHY, etc.)

Clothes hanging on my closet door so I see them morning and night (smaller sizes than I can wear)

I use MFP to log my intake and exercise

Also remember that immediately after surgery is YOUR time to rest and let your body do what it needs to do naturally. You should do just fine. Remember you are doing this for YOU and nobody else!

Congrats on your journey and good luck!

Also chew, chew, chew your food a lot. I was told put a piece of food the size of a pencil eraser in your mouth and chew it 25 - 30 times before swallowing. Very hard. Your food will go down a lot easier. And also put your fork down in between bites. No more shoveling food down your mouth. I am 2 years out and I am still struggling with it. Good luck.

Jean Mcmillan's fantastic book,"Bandwagon", lists 15 band eating skills. After she lists them, Jean goes into details for each one .

It is a great book, my go-to book for 2 AM band terror questions.... hehehe!

Just got Jean's book three days ago and am thrilled to have such a well written book about the band realities! Wish I had it pre-surgery. I am over two years post surgery and still learned a lot from it!

im 9 months banded, lost 55 lbs so far with about 30 to go. I followed my drs rules 95% of the time (which my dr said was fine as nobodys perfect, and he's very happy with my weight loss so far). Protein 1st, choose foods wisely, small bites and chew well.no drinking at meals. have healthy foods ready to go and prepared so you have some thing healthy around when you do get hungry. find some healthy substitutes for snack attacks and cravings. If you are eating too much or not loseing, come in for a fill !!! dont be shy !!!. find and exercise you like and can stick with !(for me, swimming and walking ) most importantly, listen to your band !!!! good luck !!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
