7 Days Post Op And Starving!!!!

Recommended Posts

Am 7 days post op today and for whatever reason I am starving. I had no hunger or anything the first 6 days but today I am so hungry. I also am having way more shoulder and back pain today then any other day. I was just coasting through recovery and then today I don't know what is going on. Any suggestions to keep full longer and any suggestions for the back and shoulder pain. I have done gas x, heating pad and tons of walking and it's still there :-(

I had exactly the same.

Get a real good quality Protein Shake. One of mine has 35g Protein per serve (low carb too). If you have to spend half an hour in the shop comparing them all then so be it!

I can't recommend anything for the gas, the heat pad got me through but it's pretty much a waiting game.

I use Isopure 2 scoops 50gr of Protein, with skim milk which adds more protein. Not sure what stage you are at now. I you feel hungry, try greek yogurt between your 3 shakes..

I am still on Clear Liquids alternating with Protein Shakes or carnation instant Breakfast but only 3 ounces 3 times a day. I have tried the Atkins and now myoplex but I'm still hungry

I don't know, I would try to have a small amount, like 2oz of non fat greek yogurt which is high in Protein. That may help curb your hungry horrors between meals.

Did your doctor tell you only to have 3 ounces of the drink? I was allowed 1 cup of it when I was on liquids for each serving.

You should be using a bariatric quality Protein powder or pre made shake. Carnation Instant Breakfast does not have the quality or the quantity of the nutrition that you need at this stage.

The amount of Protein in your shake will help you to stay feeling full for longer.

Yes my doctor said only 3 ounces at a time and they are the ones that said carnation instant breakfast.

I agree with Sojourner about qualilty bariatric shakes. Your shakes should have at least 25grams of Protein and with the 1 cup of skim milk you are adding a little more Protein. I used Isopure no carb, no sugar and it has 25grams of protein and 2 scoops is 50grams that should hold you over for 4 hours and you should have 1cup of skim milk and even if it takes you 1/2 drink it slow.

I hope this is the answer. Keep us posted

Well they are not always right I have had my share of mishaps with the nut and doctors. Try it and drink the 3 oz but add the 1 scoop of Protein. Carnation has almost half the protein. Protein keeps you from being hungry and maybe your body need more protein. I should have 80 grams per day of protein and the by having the 3 Protein Shakes that is 75 protein a day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
