Hi

My name is Lela. I live in NC. I got banded Aug 23. It has been going pretty good so far. What preop diet are you on? I was on the no carb preop diet. Good luck.

Hi lela, I am on low carb food diet, but may switch to Meal Replacement for last 7 days, today went ok but I have a gym session tomorrow and I think it will be hard after - I will drink lots of Water and be strong.

Glad your surgery went ok - how are you finding it?

P.s off to bed now it's midnight already

Hi Steve, it is really going well. The only thing I am finding difficult is drinking enough Water. I do use crystal light to make it easier. I am glad I am off the liquid stage. It isn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I hope it continues as well as it has been going so far. I hope you do well on your low carb diet. That honestly was difficult for me. I didn't realize how many carbs we had through out the day and what all is considered a carb. Goodness, that was hard. Good luck with your preop stage. You will get through this stage and then get your band. Congratulations!

Lela

PS get a little pillow for your stomach after the surgery it honestly helps and Chapstick.

Good luck to Steve from Sunny California-

Good luck with your surgery. I had mine on Aug 27th - still on full liquids but after 48 hrs of clear Liquid Protein I feel I am in heaven. Agree with above pillow is essential. Keep in touch.

When you cough, sneeze, roll over etc. it supports the belly and those muscles you use to do those things. Mostly due to the placement of the port. The other small puncture areas have minimal pain in a few days. that's all : ) Also a heating pad is a welcome friend if you have post op pain in your shoulder due to the C02 they use in the procedure. Good luck Hope it remains sunny for a few more days.

Hi Steve, I am glad things seem to be going well for you. You will use the pillow against your stomach for getting up and down. You can hold it against yourself if you need to cough or sneeze. I also slept with it to help hold my stomach in place and to roll over./ I agree with you on finding this forum, it has helped a lot. When I had my doubts or got nervous I would come on here. And it is full of helpful information. / Lela

Thanks to both kyrrin and lela for the pillow advice - I see now how it works and also the heat pad for the shoulder pain- I had my gallbladder out few years back and I remember that pain so will be prepared for this.

Hi mrs jro from Chicago, had final hospital pre surgery tests today - all systems good to go now,

Diet is hard but ok, I have lost nearly a stone since last dietician visit in August and a very welcome boost, a few friends have noticed my face looking better and clothes looking baggy!

Roll on 9/18 surgery

Hope all is ok with everyone here,

Steve

Do you have all of your supplies?

pillow- heating pad- gas -ex strips- prescriptions filled for pain and nausea- lots of chicken broth- gatorade g2 (i preferred punch) comfy chair by TV with remote- off work order. Jello if you are allowed ( i wasn't for a week)- tea to sip on (hot drinks in am are very soothing). I think that is it.......oh yeah a good friend/wife/child or ???? to take you to MD and return you home. They are the unsung heros-our caregivers. After that I think your set unless I forgot something.

Hey Steve, Just wanted to welcome you to LBT forum. I'm from the sunshine state Florida. My family is from the UK. I'm a first generation American.

I happen to have a cousin in London by the name Paul Smith isn't that something? I'm really proud how the UK handled the Olympics, thumbs up!

Anyway, welcome again. Good luck on your WL journey. Hope to see you around here alot.

Best Wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
