To be free 1 Posted September 4, 2012 Hello everyone!! It has been a long time since I have been here, I hope everyone is doing ok! Has anyone ever had a NG tube placed since being banded? If so did you have to have the Fluid taken out first and if the Fluid was taken out did they still have to use a guide of some kind like a endoscopy or another type? I have to have colon resection surgery and might have to have one...... I have gained a considerable amount of weight but would still like to have the band in one piece LOL.... Of course I will be checking with both Surgeons but was curious in the meantime. Thanks, Michele

They have to empty the band before placing the tube, if they don't, you run the risk of your stomach accidentally being punctured. I also had to be awake to have to placed (normally they wait until you're asleep to do it) because they needed me to swallow as they did it to make sure it went in correctly. You definitely need to see your bariatric surgeon before the surgery and tell him about the NG tube. I'm sure he'll need to empty the band. Also, be sure the surgeon doing the surgery is aware of the fact you have the Lap Band. Best wishes.
sHeLLaBee 130 Posted September 4, 2012 Wow! I never thought about that before considering surgery! I guess that are a list of things that can be affected! Good luck!
