No Energy - Started My Period:(

Recommended Posts

Well, as the title says, I started my period over the weekend. Sorry if it's TMI but it's facts. I have absolutely NO energy and I am 12 days post op. I am so sick of Protein Shakes, Soup, sf Jello and sf popsicles I could scream! I go to Dr. on Friday for my 2 week post op and i'm supposed to get moved to mushies then. Surely that will help! Wont it? I'm really having second thoughts on what I have done to myself. I want food so bad! I am not a good one to go without food while on my period at all.

Any one have any suggestions or even words of encouragement?

A lady down the hall who knows about the surgery said I look like I'm melting cause I've lost weight. I don't know how much because I don't have a scale at home but I hope she's saying that being true and not just trying to perk my mood.

Hate this:( Just want to whine and cry but i can't because I did this to myself.

It is worth it! You will get through it and look back and not even remember it being that bad.

Wow... I feel bad for you.

I don't really PMS like that so all I can offer are words of encouragement. You have made it this far through pre-op and 12 days post. You are only a few days away from a huge step in the process.

I don't have a scale at home either. That may have to change. Seeing that number fall is a serious motivator for me.

If you are up for it, maybe getting out and about will help stave off those cravings and keep your mind occupied.

I start my pre-op on 9/12. I won't lie... I am scared to death of not being able to do it!!

I know this is my opinion only but my doc moves us to mushies after a week. If you need some food have it. You know your body. Have some potatoes or something. If you start slow you will be okay.

I know this is hard on you, but it is going to be so worth it in the long run. All I can suggest is that you find something to take your mind off of food. Go for a walk, shopping looking at smaller clothes that you will fit into soon, visit a friend, just something to keep body & mind busy.

Wishing you the best of luck and looking forward to seeing a future post on how great you're feeling in smaller clothes!!

I'm 11 days post-op today. I also added mushy food like mashed potato, cream of wheat, and grits to my menu on day 8 post-op. I feel better. I had no energy at first either and I got my period right away too. They told me I was anemic in the hospital and that could be why you are feeling sluggish. I'm pretty sure that is why I was. I've added a little food some more Iron the last few days and I feel better. I've found that chewing some SF gum helps with the need to crunch on food. I know I had the "what did I do to myself" thought a few times in the last 11 days, but today when I put on a pair of shorts that were pretty snug 3 weeks ago and had no problem with the zipper (oh and the butt is baggy too!), I remembered why I did this. I'm looking really foward to the day I can pack these shorts up and give them away (or burn them in effigy!).

I've had cravings for real food too--cheeseburgers especially. My super-supportive husband has been on the diet with me even though he doesn't need the surgery--so we can sit and laugh and commiserate on how much we miss chewing food. We were watching TV last night and I paused the movie we were watching, looked over at him and said "I'd kill for a tuna melt right now!" and hit play again and went back to watching the movie. He laughed but at least he could understand what I was feeling. It isn't easy--but we both know it will be so worth it in the end.

Hang in. You know you aren't going to go back now and you just need to give your body a little time to heal and your mind a little more time to catch up. Sending a virtual hug and big cheer!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
