But how can sex NOT slip the band?

Recommended Posts

Sorry for this being an adult natured post, but I'm nervous! Ok, without being graphic, it just seems like the natural mechanisms of sex would cause a slippage. I don't know, I just can't imagine all of the movement on my stomach not hurting my band. I mean, I can see how much my outer stomach is moving, and I assume that my inner stomach is moving too. Especially when one's partner has a large stomach too LOL. Has anyone's doctor reassured them about this? I would be way too embarrassed to ask mine!

Its stitched on and then your own body forms adhesions round it, it becomes part of your body after a while. Otherwise you couldnt lift or carry anything or do anything vigorous at all.

Anyway, dont you just lie there and think of England, lol?

I was told by my dr that I could go on bunje jumping without any problems.

So I don't think little movments would slip your band

Hey,

As a future bander and a man I have been worrying about this. I like to be able to have the mobility that I currently have, and the port area is also scary.. Any men out there to tell me how the sex life is going after being banded? I have a big worry of being in the "mix" and the woman pulling the port area!!! ouch!!!!

For those of you seriously concerned about it... really, it is all how YOU feel. I had to hold my hand over my port area for the first few weeks, just because I was scared. Not too sure that a guy will have too much of a problem... I hate to say it, but you might just have to try and see what happens. If something feels uncomfortable, then stop.

You always want to be a little protective of your port. I know a few people who have pulled theirs & needed corrective surgery. The port can be a vulnerable area, but as far as sex, think of how traumatizing a bad sneeze is. You're belly & chest lurch & contract while your band stays in place, so what's an orgasm or three? Now if you're doing sex on a trampoline... that might be a different story!

However, according to my surgeon, while it's not likely, he supposes a severe sneeze or coughing spell might be able to cause a slip. He didn't say it "would cause a slip" just that we should always be a little more cautious of strenous, traumatic movement. I'd never bungee jump while banded, but I went on roller coasters. Every doctor is different.

That begs another question, few years ago I used to play Boxing. Just wondering if sex is that dangerous, then how about going back to aggresive sports? (i'm a young guy) So what if I ever got into a fight for any reason and I got a punch in the port area?.... I know its never going to happen but what if?

its my understanding that the band is deep within the stomach cavity....remember they have to pull your liver out of the way...so that stands to reason the band is nowhere near the surface, so surface activity should have no baring...right? :)

also, i think where the band is actually placed is really high..higher than we think. when i would get something stuck i would feel pain under my left breast, under my ribs...i think that is where the band is..at any rate, the only think to worry about is your port, and that you can control....

Ya know, Magic, when I did karate, I wore a chest-guard... it extended down to my stomach area. I bet it would have covered my port (mine's about at belly-button level).

It would be noticable in boxing, but in karate, your gi covers it up. If someone did see it, just tell them you have a bruise or a tender spot or whatever...

First, the band is stitched into place on the stomach. Mine (I was told) has a little flap of the stomach stitched around it to help secure it into place. Once the healing is done there may be adhesions (scar tissue) which are more fibrous to help secure it.

Second, all of us have liquid in our guts to help our guts move freely with any activity. If we didn't, our stomach would stick to our intestines which would stick to our liver or pancreas.....Well, you get the picture. We're designed to move and we have BIO-LUBE to help keep us movin'!

No matter how vigorous the activity, including sex, the band itself is on the stomach and will move with the stomach. The port, is on a muscle and I would think it could get sore from movement. Thanks to my intelligent protection of the stomach muscle <sly, but lazy grin> I don't get that soreness.

I don't know about the Karate thing or any other contact sport. I would think one would want to protect at least the port area.

I am in Martial Arts and my doc told me that if I get kicked in the port area it would be really sore but it should not hurt it. I plan on wearing an ab guard when I spar so I am not too worried about it. As far as sex, it hasnt been a problem for me ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
