Kidney Stones

Recommended Posts

Hi all. This is my first post but I'm a daily reader. I'm currently 5 weeks post op, haven't had a fill yet. Long story short, I have a kidney stone, first one I've ever had. Now I'm one of these people who got the band to have Portion Control, not to be on a diet my whole life. So with that, I've done some homework about these and really haven't had a loss of nutrition, not much of a change in what I've ate in the past. Has anybody else had these problems since being banded and is this an issue I should expect to have ongoing episodes with?

never heard of band causing kidney stones. I have had them but not since the band.

I believe what your asking is why isn't the band controlling your appitite. It is too soon. You are still healing. Once you get the fill you may see a difference. It takes a few fills to see big differences. Now is the time when you are practicing the band rules like chew chew chew, not drinking during meals and cut into small pieces.

Have patience, journal measure your food.< /p>

Good luck

wendy

Lauracat, can you please elaborate on the types of Calcium? Do you mean that one can contribute more to getting Kidney stones than the other? My nutritionist told me to take calcium citrate, and I'm curious.

My husband started getting kidney stones about 6 months post op. He was having a episode atleast once a month. His saving grace has been pure lemon juice Water. He goes through a bag a week and squeezes the juice in a water bottle. He then drinks several glasses of it a day with the juice. The artificial stuff did not work. You can have a test to determine the type of stone. He ate a lot if okra which was on the kidney stone forbidden list.

Thanks for all your responses. My diet is low to med carb, 1200 calories a day. One of my issues could be too much cheese. I have a appt with the surgeon on the 10th. Hopefully this will pass by then. Again thanks for the responses.

I have had kidney stones for year anyways so i can't say my band caused any kidney stones but It did probably contribute to me getting gallstones. I have also been told that real lemon juice helps to dissolve kidney stones by my urologist. He told me to make lemonade out of real lemons and drink it often.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
