Night Time Eating

Recommended Posts

I have noticed quite a few people posting regarding the band feeling "loose" during the night time. This apparently allows for the feeling of being hungry or eating with no restrictions. is this very common? And why at night? I was banded a little over a month ago so I am very new at this.

Thanks for your help.

I've been banded for almost 3 yrs now. I can eat about double my daytime portions at nite. No clue why. Except that since my body has been up, bouncing around all day, that it "knocks" it loose somehow (I know that doesn't really make sense). I used to eat my dinner around 9 pm. The past year or so, I've been eating earlier - around 6, so it leaves alot of extra time for snacking. I notice that when I don't eat after dinner, I slowly start losing the last 12 lbs I have to left to lose (which is the hardest to lose, btw!). If I could just keep my hands outa the frig and cupboards....

This is so me! I can eat at night as if I never had a lapband. I am so frustrated because I don't understand it. Mornings band is tight, lunch - eat small portions but at night - it's like I don't even have a band or willpower! I am so frustrated with myself!

The reason the band is much tighter in the mornings is because of Fluid settling down around the band when we sleep, once we are awake and as the day progresses that Fluid drains away hence the looser band at night time. I queried this with my doctor today when I went in for a fill and it makes sense.

Kinda like if you wake up with swollen fingers or ankles in the mornings and the fluid drains throughout the day.

well, i know in the mornings, i am (tight and not very hungry) so i just drink a Protein shake. now at night, i am guessing i could eat more than my usual cup of food but i dont. i def think its a mind game.

TMF wrote earlier on a post about why people ate (bored, someone else eating with you). i mean if you are truly hungry eat. choose a healthy piece of fruit or some air popped corn or something but dont just eat because one is looser (or because they can).

just because one can, doesnt mean one should.

anyhow, all the best :)

I think we have post nasal drip that accumulates in the band, that's why our P burps are thick flem sitting in the pouch- My Dr said its is very hard to break down,,, why did they invent mucinex?? I think this is the issue,, I know when I cry- watching a movie- or memories of my son in heaven, I cannot eat for nada- until I have drank Water or hot tea and all is washed down. I think they should explain these things medically...

This is a very interesting topic. I am actually the opposite of all of you. I am tight in the morning; however, I still eat a small Breakfast because by mid morning, I will be starving. I eat my lunch and am hungry around dinner time. I eat between 5 and 6 p.m. and after that, I am not hungry anymore. Weird. Everybody's bodies are different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
