Portion Control and getting your veggies

Recommended Posts

This stuff may have been posted before (I didn't do a search) because it's just a subject for regular conversation.

I've read several people on here who eat their Protein first then their veggies and last the carbs (I think that's the order I've seen) So my question for discussion is how often you get full before you even get to you veggies.

I mean I'm glad to be full before veggies and I guess it's a learning process to know how much protein to take on your plate so you can finish at least what you think is going to be needed.

I remember reading somewhere when you feel full you should stop and one more bit would be "painful"...

Since i'm just recently filled I'm trying to plan my "plate" portions. Like some say 1/2 the plate in veggies 1/4 protein 1/4 carbs. - I know I can't eat that much right now)

I'm sure everyone is different and some people might not even follow the protein first rule.

Right now I'm focusing on getting my Protein through the food I eat, and I have been drinking low sodium V8 to get the veggies.

The guideline I was given to follow was 80/20, so roughly for every 4 bites of Protein, you would take 1 bite of veggie. (not a rule, just my application of the guideline I was given)

I've been trying not to worry about it, and make it easy, so I smear my mashed potatoes on my chicken, or serve the chicken on the Beans... so each bite has the 80/20 breakdown automatically.

I wouldn't worry about getting your carb category eaten, specifically... your body does need carbs but they will come through the vegetables. :D

That's a good idea to do the "Every 4th Bite" for the veggies...

I wasn't actually worried about getting the carbs in I was just using the 1/4 of a plate "idea" I'd heard about before.

I wasn't sure where others learned about the Protein first idea... I've never read that before. I've read to keep the carbs low and I've done Atkins for years but never heard to make it first.

I'm eating 3 times as much as I ever thought I'd be able to post banding and have lost plenty, although its really time for another fill now and to decrease the intake a bit, I'm bouncing around the same kilogram and have been for over a month now.

But the point is I've eaten normal quantities of veges, almost as much as I did before and have just cut out the other crap.

I find when I serve up a plate, I just dont have the rice, potato or other starch anymore, dont even put it on the plate. I dont need it, as I've generally eaten bread during the day, and I dont favour the Protein over the veges, I think they're equally important. If you eat a piece of chicken and then you're stuffed and cant eat your veges, that's not a balanced meal. Well not if you want to avoid getting scurvey anyway.

I make sure to eat a piece of fruit during the day too.

I'd like to eat more fruit and more veges, I dont think as a bandster you eat the amount the body really needs, so its important to supplement. But its the trade off for normal weight I guess.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
