MrsJroChicago 32 Posted September 4, 2012 Call your insurance company. Theybeach have different requirements. Blue Cross did change theirs in the spring to make it easier. No co-morbidity diseases required with a 40+ BMI. Work with your doctor to get it approved. They are your best advocate. They can also submit your case for pre-approval to see if and what the insurance will pay. Working with a Center of Excellence is also recommended--insurance companies like them and work with them to get you approved. Good luck.

sHeLLaBee 130 Posted September 4, 2012 The national requirement for American insurance companies is a 40 or higher BMI. It doesn't matter how much higher. That .2 will make the difference. I wouldn't worry. I think you should be ok. They may require a 3 or 6 month plan prior to surgery, but you will most likely be approved.
