FLORIDAYS 3,040 Posted September 2, 2012 I didn't do it nor was it suggested by my surgeon. Which of course doesn't mean wearing them wont be beneficial ....but I wasn't required to.
Mimi Canada 15 Posted September 2, 2012 Nothing was ever said to me about compression stockings and I am flying in for my Surgery and flying out the next day. Talk to your Dr. prior to you surgery date they will advise you best.

wildrose1966 396 Posted September 2, 2012 No talk about compression stockings, but I do have to give self injections of blood thinners for 7 days post op.
blpchick 50 Posted September 2, 2012 Im not trying to scare you but blood clots are a possibility with any surgery. So the stockings although not required wouldn't be a bad idea. I was an unlucky one who got a blood clot in my leg the week after my lap band surgery. I ended up having to get shots in my stomach twice a day at home for 2 weeks straight. Luckily my husband is in the medical field and was able to give them to me.
BeeBlueHeron 87 Posted September 2, 2012 Nothing was ever said to me about compression stockings and I am flying in for my Surgery and flying out the next day. Talk to your Dr. prior to you surgery date they will advise you best. I flew in the day before my surgery and flew out the day after.....I wore compression stockings during the surgery but that was about it. I was given a shot in my thigh to guard against blood clots just before the operation. :-)
steph1967 13 Posted September 2, 2012 I did not have to wear them and know several people in my area who have had lap band surgery and didn't either. But like someone said blood clots can come with any surgery so it may not be a bad idea..
roobearb 5 Posted September 2, 2012 I was banded Aug 22 and wore the socks to sleep for two weeks after. I would rather take the extra precaution then not take it.. good luck with your surgery
Poohbutt=) 0 Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks all you guys, I hope I don't get them, did any of your drs restrict u from the gym? Im a work out freak. Lol, I'm at the gym Monday to Friday for 2 hours, or at least walking in the treadmill, or cardio?
missybear 86 Posted September 3, 2012 Compression socks are used fairly commonly in Australia for a number of surgeries. I was fitted with a pair prior to surgery in the morning and advised to wear them for a week post op. Added bonus was they kept me fairly warm during winter
chunkymom 3 Posted September 3, 2012 I have to wear them during the surgery, and the wear them after too. It is just a precaution, but I am going to do it just in case.
blpchick 50 Posted September 3, 2012 I had them during surgery and I even got the shot of heparin before surgery to help prevent clots plus they had those things on my legs that massage and help circulation durin surgery and somehow I still got a clot a week after my surgery
