What does all this water actually do?

Recommended Posts

Not to be stupid, or terribly bold, but all this running and peeing every 20 minutes is about to make me nuts! I know we are supposed to drink our Water, but what does it actually do? I have imagined it helps us seem fuller and keeps us from retaining water, but does anyone know of the actual physiological effects on the body that increase weight loss? are there any? If someone knows the answer, or at least some good resources, could you pass them along?? i wanna know these gabillion trips to the bathroom are worth it. :D

I just devoured that article. That IS the best explaination I have ever read. I wonder why my docs didn't tell me that over the years. It seems so simple. Sounds like I just need to hang in there. *sigh*

I think I can... i think I can... I think I can.... :D

THANK YOU!!

Thanks PhotoNut, that article was informative without being 'preachy' and we can all use that kind of input.

*pulls up a soapbox and stands on it*

*clears throat before beginning*

Brothers and sisters! The Water bottle is near! Now is the time to repent of your dehydrated ways and drink in the fullness of life!! Wash away your fat cells! Clense your body before it's too late! Turn away from the wretched ways of bloat and kidney strain! Drink! Drink I say.. before it is too late!

*glares at the audience, speaking with an ominously booming voice*

All bottled waters are NOT the same! Thus sayeth Aquafina.. the pure Water with the perfect taste!! Drink, brothers and sisters, lest ye be dry and parched for all eternity!

Speaking of being a Water snob, does anybody else drink Ozarka? I've always sworn that if I ever moved out of Texas I would have it shipped to me.

I have also found that if I don't sip Water between meals my band tightens up to almost completely shut. I think the stoma really needs to stay lubricated to keep things moving through. This is also my theory for why we are so tight in the mornings.

I was at the dr yesterday for my first fill and he said to be sure to drink a lot of Water 30 minutes before every meal. He said the Water loosens up / clears out the saliva so stuff doesn't get stuck as easily (i.e. for reasons other than not chewing well enough, eating too fast, etc.). He also said people misintrepret thirst as hunger so if you drink a lot 1/2 hour before you eat, you won't have thirst signals interfering with your satiety signals.

HTH!

I buy a case of Ozarka a week @ Sams! It's my bottled water of choice and I love the 20oz bottles!

Willey - Thank you! I amost missed that bit about drinking an extra 8 ounces per 25 pounds of excess weight! Mine figures out like this: 8 x 8 = 64 oz standard, plus 40 oz (5 extra 8 ounces for excess weight) = 104 oz. I drink bottled Water that has 16.9 oz per bottle, so I divided the 104 by 16.9 and came up with a little over 6 bottles per day. I've only beeen drinking 4 and not always good about it. I'm upping my minimum Water intake to 6 bottles per day!

Everyone feel like a fish yet? Glub glub!

Try some flavored waters. fruit 2-O is ok; I've found two I like more: AquaFina Flavor Splash and Nestle Pure Life [insert flavor] Splash. Both are clear, non-carbonated, lightly flavored, sweetened with Splenda. There are a few other brands out there as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
