Hi everyone. I had surgery on 8/29. I'm feeling better pain wise, but I'm having pains in my chest. I'm thinking it gas pains. It's making it hard to breath and catch my breath so it's worrying me a little. I also feel a little congested. Just ready to feel myself again. Did anyone else have this?

I had this as well. It could be the gas and more than likely that's what it is. However, keep alert about it to make sure it doesn't worsen. If it does, you may need medical advice/attention to calm your nerves and to make sure it's nothing serious.

Best of luck to you and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I'm in the same boat as far as seeming to forget! I read everything I received over and over, confident I had it down. Next day after surgery I felt like it all slipped away! Reality is always a little different than on paper. Just ask lots of questions and my advice is to get a lap band buddy! (Someone to talk to 1-on-1 who "gets" you and has some more experience is so helpful!!) I had a mini break down this morning and within a few texts I was both encouraged and put in my place. It re-energizes you and reminds you of all the awesomeness to come! Good luck!! You'll do awesome!

I only had chest pain as well post surgery, where it felt difficult to breath. Walking definitely helped as well as adjusting the angle I slept and sat, sometimes just shifting a touch released some of the gas/pain. I was also given a spirometer for breathing exercises, which was painful to use and practice deep breaths but helped see the progress as the gas subsided.

I,too, have chest pain. I did have a hernia repair and wonder if that might be part of it. It feels similar to when I had the pain from reflux before surgery, although I never had the actual liquid come in my throat or mouth. It hurts, I know that. Was banded yesterday. I've taken Gaviscon, Gas-X, and Pepcid. Sitting up in bed helps, but sure wish it would subside.

Mine was 8/23 and the chest/lung pain hurt more then surgery! My dr gave me this breathing device that he told me to breathe into 10-15 times every hour. It says "airlife" on it...you breathe in and you must hold the the little blue ball between the indicators your entire breath. He said the gas will make you hurt but breathing exercises makes it feel better. Mine lasted about 3 days. Hope you feel better.

I had surgery on the 27th. I still feels some gas pain in my chest but it gets better, you really have to rest, and take care of yourself. The best thing is to walk, walk, walk, walk... it may tire you out but it helps. Gas-X may help with the lower GI however the gas the put in you is in the abdominal cavity, not your intestines. The Gas-X won’t get rid of the gas in your chest. Concentrate on slow deep breaths, about 10 per hour when this starts. Remember to be drinking Water, the more hydrated you are the more blood flow, the more blood flow, the more your body will absorb the gas.

It gets better, remember to keep working your lungs, you don't want pneumonia

Thanks! I think I'm gonna go for a walk and see if that helps.

I have one of those too! I've been using it. In the morning I can barely do it but by night my chest is pretty clear, so I'll keep using it I guess!

I had a hiatal hernia repair with the lalp band and I went to a gastro dr. He told me that it was a gas bloated sydrome but I went for an endoscopy just to be on the safe side. But, I felt better that it was "normal" and went away. Although, it took about a month to go away. It seemed to go away when I really started to walking..not just walking around the block but working A LOT!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
