The Thought Of Soup Makes Me Sick

Recommended Posts

Morning everyone!

Just wanted to check in and say hi and thanks goodness it's the weekend, well long weekend for all the Canadian peeps.

I was banded on 20-Aug and I feel good. The port incision is still tender but otherwise I went back to work after the first week and am feeling more and more like myself everyday.

So my nutritionist has advised me of plan to for the first 5 weeks after surgery which is great. I'm currently on the full liquid stage until 4-Sept which consists of Soup and Protein shakes!

Good god the thought of soup makes me sick to my stomach. I suppose that's how much I've eaten over the last week and a half. As of Wednesday I move on to the puréed stage for a week then soft foods for a week. Which means as of 19-Sept I can eat solids again.

Seriously I'm not complaining and am following the rules but just wanted to he ideas as to how everyone has handled eatin so much of something until it makes you sick?

I also haven't been drinking as much Protein Shakes as I should be I can only committ to 2 on a good day 3.

I suppose I only have a couple of days left to deal with the soup situation....

Ideas?

I know its hard! I remember well. I ate a lot of greek yogurt, Protein Drinks and shakes, a variety of Soups, Jello and pudding( both w added protein). I splurged a bit on the Soup and didnt just get cans. I bought premade soups, which are far more pleasing when all you can do is liquid! Keep up the good work with following the rules! Its so very important.

I was on a liquid diet for 7 weeks post op! I never ever want to have Soup again! I found a black bean soup that saved my life (Pacific brand, in organics) and ate a ton of fudgsicles. You'll make it through, hang in there!

Thanks ladies.. I start puréed food tomorro, cottage cheese, oatmeal, eggs etc. Is this weird I am so excited to be able to eat this LOL! Seriously... I've all ready planned out what I'm eating and I can tell you how excited I am, but also just to be able to join the family at the dinner table without a bowl of Soup in front of me.

One step at a time!

My biggest issue with post-op diet was that it was so boring. I was thankful I was allowed to puree Soups in addition to the Protein drinks, yogurt, and SF pudding/jello.

It is over before you know it, and then you are on to fretting about other food choices :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
