After your fill diet

Recommended Posts

I've seen a lot of you post that after the fill you have only liquids for 2 - 3 days. My doctor said I could go back to solids a day or two and to do what I was comfortable with. (I hate vague rules - I tend to break them!)

He acted like it wasn't a big deal and it's not like after surgery when you are healing but more of the "getting used to the fill" aspect.

Soooo my question are

1. Does every one here do liquids after a fill for the required 2 or 3 days?

2. If the fill doesn't feel to restrictive do you progress yourself to more solids?

3. He scheduled me for another fill (maybe) in 6 weeks but If I don't feel restricted would you call after 2 weeks, 3 weeks or wait the entire 6 weeks?

I was filled yesterday and had liquids all day until late when I was staving. I had some mushies. I felt nice and comfortable full but not stuffed or in pain which I thought was good. But today I'm very hungrey and the liquids aren't cutting it. I'm debating mushies again since they didn't hurt yesterday but I feel "guilty" about breaking the liquid rule.

Our doctor doesn't have ANY special diet on fill day. I was going to put myself on liquid, just because... but I went to mushies as well, lol.

For our program, we see the nutritionist after 2 weeks, to discuss how the fill is going & see how much we can eat. Then we get our next fill (if needed) 2 weeks after that.

I know for some folks fills don't kick in until a couple of weeks later (for whatever reason). I personally don't think I would get another fill any sooner then 4 weeks, even if I didn't feel any difference. (Of course I'll break that rule as soon as I don't feel anything! :D)

Heyas Cashley, Let's see...

1. Does every one here do liquids after a fill for the required 2 or 3 days?

I was restricted to clear and full liquids for 2 days after my fill. I stuck to this without cheating.

2. If the fill doesn't feel to restrictive do you progress yourself to more solids?

As stated in #1 - I stayed on the liquids the full two days. When I did start eating solids again, I took very small bites and was careful to pay attention to how food was going to go down now.

3. He scheduled me for another fill (maybe) in 6 weeks but If I don't feel restricted would you call after 2 weeks, 3 weeks or wait the entire 6 weeks?

To my surprise, I became instantly ravenous and ate like a starving person after the two days of liquids! That lasted for a day and then things started to settle in. For a few weeks I was still wanting to eat every three hours. But by week four I was very comfortable with my restriction and only eating every four hours.

The goal is to eat a sensible meal and not be hungry again for four hours, eating three meals a day - unless you are diabetic, which means you would add some small Snacks to that. If after a few weeks, you are hungry more often than every 4 hours, I would suggest asking for a small addition to your fill. Sometimes, all it takes is a little. Well, depending on your band size.

Anyway, hope this helped.

I'm on vacation the first week of April so I don't plan on doing anything until after that. I guess then if I don't feel restricted I'll call him.

I bet it's really harder when you go and have to pay for each fill and find that you didn't get enough.

I'm getting ready for some lunch now... some yummy mushies!

Try some chicken broth with a little mashed potato stirred in. It will help you feel full faster. My fills usually kick in about 1-2 months after I get them. I am struggling with a fill I got in January. Have had a hard time eating over the past couple of weeks. My advice is to take it easy and DON't let your stomach swell. That is the pits. Then you are back on liquids. That's where I am now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
