Why Am I Doing This?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I've had two episodes of gagging and wanting to throw up after I eat? Why? Is it the food I'm eating? Eating too fast?

I didn't actually up chuck but I almost did... Any thoughts???? Thanks :)

Probably eating to fast, taking too big of a bite, or not chewing well enough. Or a combo of all three.

It's so hard relearning how to eat! Try to put you fork down between bites and really chew well.

Yes I haven't learned how to slow down my eating and am still in my old habits. But maybe after today lesson will be learned.

Don't feel bad, I'm still having problems eating too fast too, I wasn't paying attention yesterday at work while I was eating 2 hard boiled eggs for Breakfast and had a slight stuck episode. Fortunately no one was in the bathroom and I was able to keep burping small burps and moving around to get it through, but it wasn't fun. I definitely paid attention to what I was doing after that and I've only had 1 fill.

There was a post I just saw last night and someone was talking about an interval timer that may help train us to eat slower, I'm going to look into it, hopefully I can find something that vibrates (can't have noise going off every minute at work :)), but this may help. I eat fast and get it done and have always been that way, so it will definitely be an adjustment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
