Eating Mushies And Beyond- Advice Please

Recommended Posts

Other than getting the munchies in the evening I have yet to really get hungry. I will be 3 weeks out of surgery on Monday. This creates an unusual delemma for me. I know I am not getting in enough calories, I'm averaging about 500 (+ or - 25 a day). Not quite getting my Protein either. The nurse says don't worry about how much I eat, just focus on learning to eat again. I have a hard time forcing myself to eat when my goal is to lose weight. How did all of you deal with this time period?

while you are healing, its vital that you keep your Protein up. drinking shakes or Protein Shots help.

as i healed, i got hungrier so that is a good sign. follow your dr's instructions and eat to nourish your body at this time. again, get your protein as that is your bodys fuel.

Never happened for me. I was starving 3 weeks out. I could eat all I wanted but fortunately the band reigned me in.

Farm girl, you sound just like me. Everyday I say I'm gonna do better the next day, but the truth is, I'm not hungry and I don't think about eating. I know I need more Protein and Water but the day gets away from me too fast. Maybe this is why my weight loss has slowed down. I lost 30 lbs. before surgery and have only lost 10 lbs. in the 2 weeks since I've been banded. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled I've lost 40 pounds so far. I'm just anxious for more!! :-)

I thought it was just me. I don't even have the desire to eat. I literally forget to eat. I live alone and I'm off work for four weeks. Before the band that would have meant ordering food and lots of snack foods. Now I have to make myself eat. I used to hate drinking water...now I can't get enough. Wow...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
