Know how you feel man. Day 7 of post op today for me and change from day 6 is amazing. I had a lot of swelling after op and could not keep anything down. For the first 6 days could not even sleep at night. Whenever i fell asleep would wake up choking on liquids trapped above band. Even ended up in hospital one night, day 3 on a drip....Started thinking there was something seriously wrong. Yesterday was able to drink maybe 100ml a hour. Got out of bed very early this morning because was fed up with vomiting...I thought stuff it im having a cup of tea even if i vomit it up straight away...To my surprise it didnt come up , and all day have no problem drinking anything...what a RELIEF ! I also thought what have i done ? One day can make a huge difference,,, hang in there..

Hi Tiny,

Thanks for the reply. I hope it gets better soon. I dont feel safe to start on mushie food from next week if im strugglin so much just wid liquids. I ll see how i go on the weekend. If it doesnt get better i ll hv to go bk to the surgeon and hv all the fluids taken out. Not eating is even ok but not drinkin is scary.

exactly how i felt. i was desperate to just be able to drink something to put my mind at ease.. now i can, i already feel comfortable to try to eat in another week.. Over here in AUS my surgeon wont put Fluid in the band until healing has finished. so at least a month after banding until they add fluid to tighten. I. think in the next couple of days you will think the same and will also feel a great difference in your thinking

If you feel dehydrated go to the ER and get a bag of fluid!

It's absolutely essential for you to stay properly hydrated...I ended up in the hospital because I did not recognize the symptoms of serious dehydration.

If in your situation, I would not wait until regular office hours to inform the surgeon about what is going on. Accumulating fluids when you lie down is not normal...and you should seek valid medical advice ASAP.

What is to be expected so soon post op is having a major challenge to take in the quantity of fluids you have been advised to have. I struggled with this for the first month...but after that I've not had any issues, and now I drink around 80-90oz of Water daily.

Hope you feel better fast...

Thanks guys for sharing ur thoughts. I was told by the dr that the band was too tight on me and they had put Fluid in the time of surgery which made the band too tight on me. Were u guys able to have enough Water post op or did u feel too full wid a small cup of Soup? Im not so bad but i expected not to hv much trouble wid my fluid intake.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
