Sour Stomach/heartburn Tonight

Recommended Posts

10 wks post op yesterday and tonight of all times if the first time I've experienced any kind of heartburn or sour stomach. I've taken a Zofran and a Dramamine for nausea and 2 Omeprazole's today and still have it. My meals today were as follows: egg for Breakfast, small cheese quesadilla for lunch and since I wasn't feeling well for dinner I ended up eating cottage cheese and a few crackers. I take an Omeprazole every morning but this is the first time I've experienced this. Is this normal?

I'm still on daily Prevacid to control my reflux, but I do find that occasionally I have heartburn anyway. This is usually as a result of taking an Advil Liquigel...but I do have the blessing of my bariatric surgeon to do this for medical reasons.

This will need to be reevaluated when I attend my next appointment.

I know you're not eating anything that really indicates heartburn, but weird things can trigger it for me. I can eat just about anything Tomato based, but just a little tiny bit of ketchup will do me in. Maybe try tweaking your diet a little? Can't certain allergies attribute to HB as well? Gluten? I'd definitely contact your Dr...Maybe he/she can offer some kind of advice as to what else you can do? Good luck! :) I know how awful HB can make you feel!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
