New To This Website, Just Got My Lapband On Tuesday 8/28/12

Recommended Posts

Hello Kmartinez973

I got my surgery at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ.

My surgeon was supposed to be Dr. Stefanie Vaimakis, but she was away on vacation & couldn't make it back on time so her partner doctor, Dr. Fred Silvestri along with another doctor (forgot his name) did my surgery.

All is well with me.

Congratulations to all of you. I've lost 170 lbs with the band. In the beginning I looked up on this site to see what the ones who had lost 100plus pounds had done and all of them shared that they exercised. So I started walking about a week after my band. I can't believe I got out there at 322 and walked 3 miles. I've done that walking about 4-5 times a week since the beginning. And it worked. Along the way I had times when the old binging mindset was there and I ate too much or ate the wrong foods but I just got back on track (that still happens now). Most importantly I learned how not to beat up on myself. The old me would have just kept eating. This is a wonderful journey. Good luck to you all!

Karen

Ps this picture is with my new boobs and stomach. I've had to start the whole skin removal process. I've had the abdominoplasty, breast lift, and neck lift. Will have my arms done in January.

Welcome to all that's new to the site and congrats to all that are on their way to a new you and those that have done amazingly.

I just got off the treadmill and feel great, i actually want to get back on every time I get off. I try to walk on it at least 2x a day and have been doing great so far. I've only been banded since 8/31 and am finally pain free! The last time I went to the Dr (9/6/12) I was @ 14lbs gone. I feel a lot better navigating up & down the stairs in my home. Everyone on this site has been so positive & encouraging, thanks you guys for sharing your stories and keeping me motivated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
