Wondering What Is Wrong.

Recommended Posts

I have just had my surgery a week ago on Wednesday. I came home with little pain, just tired from the anesthesia, but surgery was great. Thursday and Friday I didn't get much down. By Saturday, I hadn't been able to get a full Protein Shake down, but the little that I did felt stuck. I kept gagging and clear Fluid kept comming up but it wasn't like I was throwing up hard. (I know.... kinda gross)... This happened on Sunday also. This happened around 5 times. Everyone has told me to make sure that I don't throw up or my band will slip. Monday, I didn't feel full at all so I am worried that it might have slipped. Others that have had bands said that my stomach was healing and that I wouldn't feel full all the time. I guess I am just paranoid, because I am hungry now and I haven't been before. I have followed the nutritionist's directions as she said, except for the amount of Protein I am able to take in.

OK.... making a long story short. Does anyone else feel hungry after just a week and get paranoid that it isn't working. I want that feeling of tightness back. Or is this normal???

I had the band done two weeks back and yes my tolerance for food went up almost every day as the swelling went down. There is no Fluid in the band initially as the focus is on healing and recovery.

The gagging is something I saw as well, I feel I may not be throwing up that hard anymore because it is only from the pouch and not the whole stomach.

I had a problem with the shakes I blended with ice initially as they came out thick from the blender and I could not drink them the first few days. I switched to prepared shakes like muscle milk or premier Protein from costco and as they are like milk consistency they went down ok.

I can now tolerate the thicker shakes so things will change every day. I am personally focusing on getting in about 1200 calories a day of which 100g is Protein and drinking atleast 64 oz of fluids.

I start soft foods tomorrow, lets see how that goes.

I feel better hearing that. I went to the pre-made stuff and I liked Muscle Milk and also the EAS Myoplex Lite. It was so much easier than the powder mix with milk. I just went from not getting anything down to feeling like it wasn't there.

Thanks bunches!!!!

Normal... doubt you have had a slip because you would probably not be able to keep anything down. My guess is there was swelling and between the band and the swelling you were too tight. Glad it has let up.

Good Luck on your Journey!

if gagging, it sounds like you could be swallowing too much or to fast...sip sip.and keep on sipping..you are still swollen so it will feel as if its not going down.dont rush and follow your doctors orders to help with healiing.....as you heal, i know i did, i got hungrier. completely normal...so relax.

your band is sewn in so it will could alot to make it slip...but since you are newly banded, that is not the case. do your best not to get sick or vomit. my dr gave me anti nausea meds to help. do you have those??

again, sip and relax. congrats on your surgery

First, this is going to be a long journey and you will have hills and valleys. It's not going to be a steady stairway to skinny heaven. And I mean looooonnnnggg journey. So never fret over a week or two setback.

Carolina is right. You can no longer gulp your food or even liquids. Some of us can, but you sound like you still have a lot of inflammation around your band so slow down and take it easy.

The clear sticky stuff you PB'd(productive burp) is your body's mechanism to aid stuck food through your esophogus. More on that when you start getting fills and get stuck. It's OK to spit it out. It's not OK to have PB with every meal but it will happen many times if you are normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
