Try chewing gum or chewing on ice

maybe it's lame, but for me just having something to chew/crunch helped!

Ice chips, Popcicles, sugar-free Italian Ice, Ice Chips...They really do help with the "chewing urge" and will help you stay hydrated.

I know this may not fall exactly in line with your diet plan yet, but I find now that I'm about 13 weeks out (and on a regular diet) that if I'm craving something, it's best to have a little taste of whatever I want. If I don't indulge just a tad, I eat around it. I think - - well I can't have my _____ so I'll have this...then this...then this. And before you know it, I've eaten four times the calories of the one thing I was craving. So I let myself have a very little bit. A bite of something then give it away or throw it away.

I'm not recommending everyone do this, especially if your diet guidelines have you still on liquid/mushy. I just learned a long time ago that I'll eat around whatever I'm really craving if I don't give myself just a little.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
