Breakfast Protiens Besides Shakes/yogurts

Recommended Posts

When I went to get a fill on Friday the doctor said that I should not bother with yogurt or protien shakes for Breakfast. He said it only caused me to be starving by the time lunch comes around. He is right. The only thing is what should I eat for breakfast? I can't eat eggs because they get stuck. Does anyone have a suggestion?

My nutritionist always says that it isn't necessary to eat "breakfast" foods in the morning. She recommends something high in protein.....

Chili

Turkey/cheese roll-ups

Cottage cheese

chicken breast

Etc.

scrambled eggs get stuck with me but I tried one over easy and it was okay. Currently I have 5cc's in, just had a fill this past week. And yes you are right about shakes for breakfast and getting hungry, had one this morning before church and by noon I was starving and it had only been 3 hrs. I can usually go about 4.5 hrs between meals. The turkey/cheese roll ups sound yummy. It's so hard for me anyway because I never was a breakfast eater anyway which was a big mistake to begin with!. Good luck for us on finding breakfast foods.

I like to make home made quiche...and then only eat the inside of the quiche and leave the crust. The egg inside has more of the consistency of custard...and has never gotten stuck. I usually add spinach, a small amount of Swiss cheese and onion.

Though I realize this may have some additional calories from other choices, it does keep me from getting hungry for 4.5-5 hours, and works for me.

I love turkey sausage patties, jimmy dean and Bob Evans makes a ready to eat one that I just pop in a frying pan for a couple of minutes on each side to warm it up and it is delicious. HIgh in Protein and low in fat and calories. Very filleing also. I travel early in the mornings for work so I take a sausage patty and a boiled egg to eat on the road. I too find that breakfast could be difficult to eat so I drink a cup of hot team eac morning before I start to eat.

I eat a poached egg on a slice of wholemeal toast(done that way the egg does not get stuck) or a bowl of oats or homemade muesli with greek yogurt. If I'm in a rush and have an up and go then like you I find I am hungry and looking for real food an hour or so later. For me drinking my meals is not an option.

Why does everyone get stuck with eggs? I would think this is a moist food and would go down easy. I'm only about a month and 1/2 in, so lots of questions.

Other options:

Meatballs

Mini meatloafs (made in a muffin tin)

Well, I'm no expert but the way I've been explained to is after you get fills your stoma opening is only so big or shall I say small and therefore that piece of scrambled egg just can't get chewed very well and gets stuck over the opening, it lays just right over the opening, does this make sense? For me at least this happens no matter how well I chew a scrambled egg, now cooked over easy, it goes down ok. However, with that said, I just had .5cc put in Thurs. and have not had an egg since last Tues so we'll see. Hope this helps.

I'm not even banded yet but I have a hard time with breakfast. I started just taking a ounce of cheese and am happy with getting that down. Never a problem drinking 16oz of Water with it.

Here is how I make yogurt more filling.

Chobani fruited Greek yogurt (6 oz. other brands are only 5.3 oz). Mix in 1/2 a scoop whey isolate Protein Powder (vanilla for peach or pinapple, chocolate for cherry or raspberry), splendra to taste, 1 tsp unflavored benefiber. Mix well.

Then add in a couple chopped walnuts, Kashi Go Lean high Protein Cereal (measure out using scoops from protein powder I normally do two.). This is a lot more filling than plain yogurt. I can usually last about 4 hours.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
