Newbie, My Journey So Far...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, my names Chelsea, im 24. I had my band fitted in September 2011. From preop to up to 4 weeks after surgery I lost a total of 2 Stone, I was due for my first fill at the end of October under x-ray but found out I was pregnant so suspender my treatment until I had my baby, during this time I put the 2 stone I had lost back on. A week and a half ago I had my first fill something I had been looking forward to throughout my pregnancy. So the day comes and I got 4ml put it, im not actually sure of the size band I have though, this is something im going to ask. In ny liquids only period I lost 10lbs but now I've found I have no restriction so am pretty much eating anything, I dare not weigh myself but I know ive put back on. I'm now waiting for my doctor to get back to me regarding a referel to get another fill. I was so excited atvtge changes the scale was telling me that was happening, now I feel slightly disheartened.

Yesterday I was very bad and had a Chinese, mamouth sized a while I don't feel I i later learnt I had actually ate too much, I had terrible pain under my port and had to be sick to eleaviate it although now I have that torn muscle feeling, this is actually how I come across this site as I was looking up what/why etc.

I'm already aware that this process is a huge learning curve and a different one for each individual. My mom has also had a band which was about 3 years ago now, she is a success story and has reached her target goal.

Any way I told my mom what id done and the after math I was experiencing and it led to a right telling off and a 'i told you so' ... Never to old for it ay! Lol.

Chelly, keep in mind that you may not get restriction with your first fill, regardless of the amount. It can take more than one fill to get to your "happy place". Make sure you are getting in ALL of your Water and required Protein. The protein will help keep you from getting hungry. And, if you have picked up the bad habit of drinking soda - put it down and never drink another - the carbonization can open up your band and make what restriction you may have all but disappear.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
